Owen Cornell Obituary

CORNELL-Owen Neal, Born July 9, 1923 in Eagle Rock, California. Died April 21, 2009 in his Pasadena home of 53 years, peacefully, unexpectedly, at age 85. Still golfing, making plans, always in motion, a spirit and force of nature. With humor, generosity, goodwill and energy, Neal had a mighty impact on all. Son of Marie and Earl, predeceased by brother Earl Jr. and an invaluable son to mother-in -law Donna. Devoted and loving husband to Barbara for 61 years, most amazing father to Laura and Jennifer, extraordinary grampy to Tanner, Lilly and Paige, and mayor of the neighborhood. He was a dedicated and revered elementary school teacher and principal in the Los Angeles school system for 38 years. Neal graduated from Occidental College in 1948 where he met his beloved Barbara. He served in WWII, landing at Omaha Beach on D-Day Plus 8 Hours, third wave, master sergeant of the 1st Infantry Division Big Red One, in combat at Herken Forest and Battle of the Bulge, to the beginning of the Nurembur g Trials. In 1951 he was sent to the front lines of the Korean War. Serving his family, country and community, Neal was most exemplary of the Greatest Generation. Many stories told, many left to tell. How proud we are.

My thoughts and prayers to the whole family. By reading the Guest Book, I sense that Neal lived a full and amazing life, touching many lives. I wish I could have met him. With the love thats being express for him, Neal truly is God's blessed child. Neal's love for people and life is a reflection of God's love. And that Love and that Life is eternal. We take with us what we give to others, and if its eternal Love and Life that we share, then we hold that divine hope that we will see our loved ones again. Love and Peace Marlon

Dear Dad, It has just been over a week since my world crumbled and changed forever. I miss you oh so much!! You would have loved the neighborhood tribute to you, just your style; simple with no fuss, just friends gathering to say goodbye to the most amazing man on earth. Dad, I love you so so much and am pissed off that you are gone but will stay strong and live life to the fullest. You taught me to be who and what I am and I am proud. Love, Jenny

To the Family:
I would like to extend my condolences to all of Neal's family, we here at Brookside will truly miss him. There are only a few people who really exemplify the essence of a "good" person, Neal was certainly one of those chosen few.

Condolences to the Family.

I knew Neal for approximately 28 years as a member of the Brookside Mens Golf Club. There we served together on the Board of Directors of the club for most of that time. I know he enjoyed golf and being a member of the club.

We will miss him.
