Richard Chapman Obituary

Richard Stevens Chapman

Born December 15, 1942, in Pasadena, Richard Stevens Chapman passed away comfortably in his home surrounded by family on February 13, 2013.

He was a humorous, generous and kind man who impacted all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. He counted all those he crossed as friends and treated them like family. After high school he attended Pasadena City College and was active in Greek life.

In the 60's, he opened his own float building business,
Festival Artists, Inc. and his many contributions over decades to the Tournament of Roses Parade will be sorely missed and rarely matched. He was a master of showmanship and innovation. His colossal floats brought joy, laughter and happiness to all who beheld them, just like the man himself. He was a true pioneer.

His many travels took him from family camping trips in Oregon to sailing in the British Virgin Islands to fun antics in Baja California, and numerous trips to Indonesia for his float building business.

He will be missed by many including his sister, three children and their spouses, and two grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held Saturday March 2 from 11am-1pm at Mijares Mexican Restaurant at 145 Palmetto Drive in old town Pasadena and all are welcome.
In lieu of flowers (even though he loved them) please send donations to http://www.oceanconservancy.org

I was a Zeta Sig with Rick at PCC. He was a great guy and good friend. Both of my daughters worked on his floats. God bless Rick.

Oh Rick . . . where did you go so soon? Thank you for making the dream of six Pasadena girls come true. We'll always love you for that. I hope your floating somewhere off the St Thomas. I miss you.
