Robert Cheesewright Obituary

pu,sgobits2 CHEESEWRIGHT-Robert Warner Cheesewright, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2006 at the age of 93. He was born in Pasadena and lived there his entire life, except for his WWII involvement with the Navy in the South Pacific. He was a graduate of Polytechnic School, Cate School, and Yale. He touched many people with his friendly and direct manner and his perseverance. His professional life started by designing kitchens at his father's company, Cheesewright Studios. He went on to be involved in ranching in Julian, CA and in Hawaii. He had a passion for food, gardens, and wine. He was a founder of the Pasadena Food and Wine Society, served as past president and board member of the Pasadena Beautiful Foundation, and V.P. of Development for Descanso Gardens in La Canada. From his ranching years he was a founding member and board member of the Council of California Growers. He was an active member of the Southern Skis Association and skied all around the world. His love of skiing led him to build a second home in Tahoe. He skied until he was 89 years old. He was an active member of the Valley Hunt Club in Pasadena for 68 years playing tennis and bridge with his friends. Bob's beloved wife, Gwendolyn Milner Cheesewright died in 1998. He is survived by his two daughters, Marilyn Newell of Palo Alto and Peggy Garner of Bend, Oregon, three granddaughters and two grandsons and three great grandchildren. As requested there will be no mem orial service at this time. Contributions may be made to Descanso Gardens at 1418 Descanso Dr., La Canada, CA 91011 or to the Pasadena Beautiful Foundation, 140 Lake Avenue, Suite 268, Pasadena, CA 91101.

My father-in-law, Bob Cheesewright, was an exceptional man. I feel very fortunate to be a part of his family and his life and I will miss him.
