Mr. Edwards was a man of distinction; a man of integrity, with a servan't heart. May the Lord comfort those who are left behind.

DEAR FAMILY MEMBERS:

WHILE I ONLY HAD A BRIEF TIME TO KNOW SPENCER, HIS WIFE AND DAUGHTER, ROBIN, I WAS SO VERY IMPRESSED WITH HIS FAITH, WINSOMENESS AND FLAIR FOR EXTRAORDINAY STORIES OF LIFE. TO ME HE WAS THE CONSUMMATE INTELLECTUAL, WHO REMAINED WELL-READ IN ALL DISCIPLINES AND MOST PASSIONATE OF THE REALITY OF HIS FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. HE WAS AN EDUCATOR ON ALL OCCASIONS, IMPARTING NEW INSIGHTS AND INSPIRATION TO THOSE IN HIS COMPANY. HIS LOVE FOR BETTY WAS UNALLOYED AS HE SPOKE WITH ADMIRATION AND GREAT EMPATHY FOR HER, ALWAYS THERE TO READ, WRITE OR JUST TALK. OF HIS CHILDREN AND THEIR CHILDREN, HE REFLECTED A PRIDE IN THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS, ONLY TO BE ECLIPSED BY A LOVE FOR THEM, IRRESPECTIVE OF TIME AND CIRCUMSTANCE.

HE WAS AND WILL REMAIN TO ME, THE ELDER STATESMAN OF SIERRA MADRE, EMANATING A PASSION FOR LIVING AND LIFE, TO HONOR HIS HEAVENLY FATHER. WHILE MANY YEARS OLDER AND SO MUCH WISER THAN ME, I ALWAYS FELT LIKE A COLLEAGUE IN HIS PRESENCE.

MY PRAYERS FOR THE FAMILY AND TRUST THAT HIS LEGACY WILL CONTINUE ON IN PERPETUITY.

SPENCER, YOU HAVE BEEN A FRIEND TO ME AND THAT I SHALL NEVER FORGET.

Fr. Edwards was a profound influence on me as a young man, and I am truly blessed to have known him and to have learned so much from him. He lived the equivalent of several lifetimes over the course of his eighty-six years, and will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered - always.
