I am so sorry that we have lost this generous and gentle soul who gave so selflessly of himself to so many organizations. Steve was on the board of several nonprofits where I worked and I treasured his participation, his intelligence and his wit. Requiescat in pace.

When I joined the Zamorano Club Stephen was one of the first members to welcome me into the Club. We always enjoyed a cordial relationship.

I am very sorry to hear about Stephen Kanter's passing. I knew him as a collector of contemporary fine printing, as a former president of the Zamorano Club, and as the endower of the Stephen A. Kanter Lecture on fine printing at the William Andrews Clark Memorial Library, though I know he collected in a number of areas and was very generous with a number of institutions and causes. I also remember his love of music, and spoke with him numerous times at the chamber music concerts at the Clark Library. He will be missed by me, and by many others.

I knew Steve through his activities at the William Andrews Clark Memorial Library at UCLA and the Zamorano Cub. Steve was a generous donor to the Clark, setting up a lecture in his name about fine printing and helping the library in other ways too. He was an ardent collector of books and other objects, and always present at the Clark for its chamber music concerts. Sincere condolences to his brother.

And he was a passionate book collector, enjoying the company of his compadres in the Zamorano Club. He was always known to me as a gentleman. I will always think well of him and I wish to express my sympathy for his family and loved ones. - Jeff

I already miss him at musical performances and arts events all over Pasadena and the greater Los Angeles area. He stood out with his colorful ties and his even more colorful opinions about composers, performances, arts organizations and his deep love for 20th century music which he never missed an opportunity to express. Rest In Peace.
