Thomas Elmer Fator

June 19, 1931 - Jan 2, 2022 Thomas Fator, age 90, passed away on January 2, 2022 at Arcadia Methodist Hospital. He was born to the late Elmer and Evelyn (Weitbrecht) Fator on June 19, 1931, in Jamaica, New York City. Thomas grew up on the racetrack and spent his career working in the horse racing industry. He came from a family of well-known jockeys: namely his father, Elmer Fator, and his uncles, Laverne Fator and Mark Fator. Thomas began his career as an exercise boy at age 15. At retirement he was the Stable Superintendent at Santa Anita Racetrack. He also spent a number of years working at Hollywood Park and Del Mar Racetrack, and he established his own business transporting racehorses. Thomas enlisted in the army and served for three years in Korea and Germany, being honorably discharged at the rank of Sargent. He married his dear wife, Sylvia, in 1955 and raised his children in Arcadia. He is preceded in death by his father, mother and his sister, Joyce Beauregard and nephew, Lance Beauregard. Thomas is survived by his wife, Sylvia (Martinez) Fator; his daughter Donna (Al) Doornik; his son Mark (Angie) Fator; four granddaughters: Allison, Lindsey, Katie and Kelly, as well as his sister Betty Troegner and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Luke's Church in Temple City on January 18 at 11 am. Burial will be at the California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery in Monterey on January 21 at 10:30 am.
