Konrad Schulz Obituary

NARRAGANSETT - Konrad Josef Schulz, 84, formerly of Pawtucket, passed away peacefully at his home with family by his side on Tuesday, June 5, 2018. He was born in Wormditt, East Prussia, Germany on June 10, 1933 to Johanna and Josef Schulz. He was the middle child among eight siblings; Marianne Dalpe of Newport, RI and Erika Palagi of Cumberland, RI, Helena Giese of Voerde, Germany and the late Karl- Heinz Schulz, Rudolf Schulz, Elizabeth Feuster, and Hedwig Knight. After fleeing to West Germany following World War II, he trained as a decorative arts painter and finisher, including an apprenticeship in the south of France. In 1956, he married Elfriede Pohl of Königsberg, East Prussia. They recently celebrated their 62nd anniversary on June 2, 2018. They emigrated to the United States following Konrad's sister, Hedwig and husband, Leonard Knight to Pawtucket, RI. There, he and Elly had three children. Besides his loving wife, Konrad leaves a daughter, Katrin Fulginiti and her husband, John, of Gambrills, MD; a son, Norbert Schulz and his wife, Betsy, of Del Mar, CA; a daughter, Martina Schulz of Wakefield, RI; five cherished grandchildren, Kara and Jenny of MD, Cooper and Carlee of CA and Mitchell of RI and many nieces and nephews here and in Europe.
Konrad used his skills to start his own painting and contracting business that flourished until his retirement. He is responsible for creating countless outstanding decorative installations in the finest homes and estates in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. He was active in the RI German-American Cultural Society his entire adult life, including serving as President of the Schubert Chor Clubs in Providence and Pawtucket. He was also a Chairman of the Rhode Island State Bicentennial Commission celebration. Konrad was a joy to be with, a loving husband, wonderful father, the best Opa to his grandchildren and the best of friends to many. Konrad never met a person that he couldn't captivate with a story and will be remembered fondly by his loving family and dear friends.
Services at this time will be private. A celebration of Konrad's life and accomplishments will be planned by the family this coming fall at a date to be determined and will be held at the German-American Cultural Society in Pawtucket. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the German American Cultural Society, 78 Carter Ave., Pawtucket, RI 02861 will be appreciated. Arrangements are entrusted to William W. I did not know Konrad, but I know his daughter Katrin and she is a wonderful individual with a great sense of humor and is dedicated to her family and friends. I know Konrad lives through her and his other children and his memory will never be forgotten. May you Katrin and your family support each other through this difficult time and share great memories with each other about your father. God bless you and your family!

I only met Konrad twice in my life: In 2012, as I visited America for the first time together with Brigitte and then in 2014, as Konrad visited us in Voerde together with his son Norbert and his grandson Cooper. We had fine hours together, we laught very much. I remember him as a likeable, friendly and hospitable man. We had so much fun, as we watched together on TV the final of the soccer world championship 2014 in a pub in Wesel with Germany as the winner. Im very sad about his passing away. Sincere condolences to all of you! God will bless you! Joachim
