Lind Torrey Fiveland

Lind Torrey Fiveland died on July 17, 2022 at the age of 91. He was born on July 9, 1931 in Orange, New Jersey, the fourth child of Norwegian immigrant parents. After high school in that state, he joined the U.S. Air Force, which ultimately brought him to March Air Force Base. An Air Force buddy took him to the Union Church in Riverside, CA, and there, he found a wife. Following departure from the military, he worked for Rohr Aircraft and then the Alfred M. Lewis Company while raising three children. After retirement, he worked for Acheson and Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary and his love of people and caring ways were well suited to serving grieving families. Lind was a quiet person who loved the Lord first and family second. With a ready smile, a cheerful outlook during good times and bad, and thoughtful ways toward everyone, Lind was easy to like. His last years as a widower were spent in an assisted living facility, where the staff and other residents embraced him warmly so that he felt happy there too. He had a lifelong love of aviation and could identify and talk about all World War II aircraft. Combining artistic talent with that knowledge, he hand-carved wooden models of hundreds of those planes as a hobby. They are accurate replications that form a stunning collection, which he donated to the March Field Air Museum. He is survived by a younger sister, Muriel Jernigan, daughters Nanette LeBorgne and Leilani Brabant, and a son, Jon Fiveland.
