Mark Thompson Obituary

11/12/1947 - 8/4/2021 We lost a one-of-a-kind man when he passed away unexpectedly on August 4, 2021. Mark Allison Thompson was first and foremost a loving husband, father and grandfather as well as a brilliant man, a business leader, and a generous and caring soul who touched the lives of many during his time on earth. Mark was born in Riverside, California on November 12, 1947 to Sylvia and Jerome Thompson. He attended Pachappa Elementary School, Central Jr. High School and graduated from Riverside Poly High School in 1965. He earned a business degree from Cal State Long Beach and went on to start his Commercial Real Estate career at Coldwell Banker Real Estate in their Downtown Los Angeles office. Mark met his soulmate and loving wife, Sue, while they were both working at Broadway in Newport Beach and attending college and they were married on January 31, 1970. Together, they had three wonderful children: Michael, Allison and Scott. Michael and his wife Norma blessed Mark and Sue with two grandchildren, Sophia and Tanner. Allison and her husband, William multiplied those grand blessings with their two children, Emily and Ryan. His son Scott had the special pleasure to work side by side with his father for a decade and a half in the family business and will continue to uphold and honor his father's business legacy for decades to come. Mark, along with his father, Jerome Thompson formed T & S Development, Inc. during the 1970s and they developed many shopping centers throughout Inland Southern California. His lasting business legacy is Riverside's beloved Canyon Crest Towne Centre, the heart of Canyon Crest and one of the most special shopping centers in Riverside. Mark will be most remembered for his ability to be a completely devoted family man while simultaneously finding success as a businessman, but also for his never-ending happy demeanor highlighted by his wit and fun sense of humor. He was truly a "people" person whose compassionate and generous nature found him admired and respected by those he worked and played with throughout his life. Mark left a lasting impression on every person he was lucky enough to meet in life. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Thompson, his sister, Julie Ann Thompson, his mother, Sylvia Thompson Sherwin, his father, Jerome "Jerry" Thompson, and his stepmother, Bonny Thompson. Initial memorial services will be private. The family plans to host a Celebration of Life at a later time when it is safe to gather. In lieu of flowers or gifts, our family asks that you honor one of Mark's finest qualities, helping those less fortunate by donating to the Life Lessons Scholarship Program by Life Happens, which helps send kids to college who have lost a parent.

I am Marks cousin from Seattle. We lost contact over the years but I followed his life from my uncle Jerry which I would visit a few times a year in Newport. During our childhood we would see each other on holidays and visit during the summer with our grandparents Sam and Marie Thompson . I have so many pictures of us cousins Mark, Julie, Lonnie and my sister Sandy to remember the fun times together. Rest in Peace Mark . Sending prayers to Sue and kids.

Mark and his mom and dad and sister lived across the street (McKinley St) from us in Riverside and I have a LOT of wonderful memories of him and his parents and sister. My love and heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. Rest in Peace Mark my friend.

My deepest sympathy goes out to Mark´s family. I was so saddened to hear of his passing. He was such a kind, gentle soul. I was his dental hygienist at Canyon Crest for many years and always looked forward to taking care of him and visiting with him. He was an amazing and gifted man and will be sorely missed. Rest In Peace in our Heavenly Father´s arms my friend. My continued prayers go out to the family for comfort.
