Richard Mikeska Obituary

On Sunday, September 17, 2023, Richard Wayne "Rick" Mikeska passed away at the age of 76, from Mesothelioma Cancer. Richard was a loving and supportive Husband, Dad, Paw Paw, and Friend.

Rick was born in Houston, Texas on November 11, 1946 to Willie John and Cecelia Mikeska. Richard is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara (Kathi) Taylor Mikeska; his two children, Kyle Mikeska and Leah Koonsen and her husband David, and 2 grandchildren, Avery and Alexa Koonsen; along with his brother William Mikeska and cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie John and Cecelia Mikeska, his brothers Clem Mikeska, Eugene Mikeska, and sister, Carolyn Jean.

Rick graduated from Mt. Carmel Catholic High School in 1965. After graduation he joined the Local Union 211 and was a pipefitter for 7 years before joining W.S. Bellows Construction and having a successful career as Construction Superintendent for 47 years. Richard served in the Texas Army National Guard for 35 years. He was part of the 36th Airborne Brigade as a Jumpmaster and HQ 49th Engineer Brigade. He completed his respectful military career, serving his country as Command Sergeant Major (E9).

Rick loved his home and his family. You could find him working in the yard, coaching or watching his kids' or grandkids play sports. He was always their biggest fan and never missed a game. He was passionate and loved his family and extended family of golf friends, neighbors, classmates, soldiers, sports families, co-workers, and other close friends. Rick will be deeply missed by all that loved and laughed with him.

The funeral service was held at Peevey Funeral Home on September 21, 2023. Interment followed at the Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Rick's name may be made to a charity of your choice.
