Channie Jasper Obituary

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Ms. Channie M. Jasper, 79, of Florence, who transitioned on Sunday, August 24, 2025. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this time of loss and remembrance. Family and friends gathered here today to celebrate the life and homegoing of Channie Mae Young Jasper, who entered eternal rest on August 24, 2025, surrounded by peace and love. Born on January 20, 1946, in Effingham, South Carolina, to the late Hamp and Alberta Johnson Young Sr., Channie Mae was baptized as a child at Savannah Grove Baptist Church under Rev. Lunn, where she remained an active member. She graduated from Wilson High School in May 1964. After graduation, she moved to Newark, New Jersey, where she lived for 28 years. Channie always strived to learn and grow. She earned her bank teller certification from CTS and attended RETS Electronic Schools in Nutley, New Jersey. Channie built a remarkable career with Western Electric, where she was known for her dedication and strong work ethic. After retiring, she relocated back home to Effingham, South Carolina, where she embraced life fully, living with independence, strength, and a spirit uniquely her own. Channie was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, and friend. Her life was a testament to generosity, resilience, and joy. She was known for her love of cooking, preparing feasts that left everyone wanting more. She was also a master seamstress, effortlessly making clothes for her loved ones. Her infectious laugh could brighten any room, and she touched countless lives with her warmth and spirit, leaving behind treasured memories that will never be forgotten. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved son, Raymond McLeod III; and her siblings Bertha Mae Johnson, Betty Jean Young, Azalee Scott, Ray Young, and Clarence Young. She is survived by her siblings Hamp (Esqueen) Young Jr., Gladys Perkins, Leroy Young, Gloria Commander, Doris (Wesley) Ingram, and Quinton Young; her nephew, who was like a son, Cynthia Taylor, her niece, who was like a daughter; along with many beloved nieces and nephews. Her legacy of love, strength, and laughter will forever remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Arrangements Entrusted To: Ideal Funeral Parlor, Inc. 106 E.
