Edward Deas

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. Edward Deas, 80, of Florence, who transitioned on Monday, September 22, 2025. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this time of loss and remembrance. Mr. Edward "Buddy" Deas, affectionately known as "Lil Buddy" to family and friends, was born in Florence, South Carolina, the son of the late James and Jesse Mae Jones Deas. Buddy received his education in the public schools of Florence County. He later retired from both Merita Bakery and Ard's Trucking, where he was a faithful and hardworking employee. A man of deep faith, Buddy was a devoted member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where he served faithfully on the Usher Board. His gentle spirit, warm smile, and kind heart touched all who knew him. In addition to his parents, Buddy was preceded in death by four siblings: Charlie Deas, Willie "Buck" Deas, Della Deas Mungo, and Jessie Mae Deas Benbow. Left to cherish his precious memories are his loving wife of 54 years, Pastor Joan Thompson Deas of the home; four sons: John Israel of Florence, SC, Marshall McIver of Florence, SC, Michael McIver (Sara) of Florence, SC, and Mario Deas of Florence, SC. He is also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved him dearly. Buddy leaves behind his siblings: Pearlie Perrin of Mt. Clemens, MI; Louise (Leroy) Jordan of Florence, SC; Thelma Patrice Johnson of Douglasville, GA; Betty (Eddie) Smoot of Davenport, FL; and Moses (Ruth) Deas of Mt. Clemens, MI. He is also survived by his adopted brother, Willie (Judy) Williams of Indian Head, MD; his aunt, Bessie Jones of Florence, SC; his sister-in-law, Doris Deas of Florence, SC; and his brother-in-law, Anderson Mungo of Florence, SC.
