Daniel Mattson Obituary
Daniel was born in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan on July 2, 1949, to Walfred and Lyme Mattson. He grew up in Wakefield, Michigan, graduated from Wakefield High School, and Northern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science.
He worked in the Tilden Mine of Ishpeming, Michigan and as an electrician at Tesoro Refinery in Nikiski, Alaska. Dan and his best friend and wife of 47 years, Elaine Mattson, started a family and, in 1982, followed their dream of moving to Alaska. Here they raised their children and built their dream home on a lake.
Dan loved hunting moose and practicing his love of outdoor photography. He will be remembered as a courageous, hard-working, and incredibly loving father, husband and grandfather. Though Dan battled IPF, he chose to enjoy his time with his wife and loved ones. He is now at peace, but will be greatly missed.
Dan is survived by his wife, Elaine Mattson; children, Wendy Focose, Renee Kuipers, Leann Mattson, and Andrew (Alissa) Mattson; grandchildren, Ashley and Mikayla Kuipers, Kalvin and Elsie Daniels, and Keegan and Maddy Mattson; brother Dennis (Judy) Mattson; many nieces and nephews; and extended family members Jarrod Daniels, Brian Kuipers, and Sarah, PJ and Jared Focose.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Don Mattson.

Dan and I worked together for many years. He was so kind, funny and totally devoted to his family. May our Lord hold him and all of his family in His loving arms.

Elaine and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Dan was a good man. When I had allergy issues at work, Dan generously brought in his air purifier for me and told me to keep it as long as I needed. He was a very kind person. Your family will be in my heart and prayers. Sending hugs.
