Dave Goggia unexpectedly passed away on the afternoon of September 24, 2025. Dave was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Next to his family, nothing was more important to him than serving the Lord.
Funeral Services will be held 4:00 p.m. Friday, October 3rd, 2025, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – 609 North Forest Drive – Kenai, Alaska 99611. A viewing will be held 1 hours prior to services from 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. in the Relief Society Room. Dave will be buried next to his sister at the Kenai City Cemetery following services. A gather will follow back at the church following the graveside service.
Dave and his wife Mary were married in 1973 and moved to Kenai, in 1976. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Dave worked in the oilfields and also as a commercial fisherman in Cook Inlet and Bristol Bay for the Carlson family. He loved commercial fishing and cherished his time working with the Carlsons.
Eventually, Dave became a building contractor and constructed numerous homes in the Kenai area. In 1986, he moved his family back to Oroville, California, where he worked a variety of jobs, returning to Alaska each summer to fish.
In 1992, Dave was blessed with a job at Unocal, which later became Agrium. After leaving Agrium, he returned to contracting and also began guiding fishing trips on the Kenai River - a job he truly loved. In fact, the family often joked that fishing season was the only time of year he loved going to work. His son Tyler later joined him in the guide business. As a fishing guide, Dave eventually became president of the Kenai River Professional Guide Association. In time, he helped form the Kenai River Foundation, which created the Wounded Heroes program to serve returning and active-duty wounded veterans. Dave served as chairman, working alongside some of his favorite buddies - a role he took great pride in. If Dave wasn't on the river, you would find him surrounded by his grandkids, doing the Lord's work, or traveling down south to visit friends and family.
Dave is survived by his wife Mary and their children: Amber and son Braydon, Kimberly (Mario) and sons Alexander & Xavier, Tyler (Kaile) and Allie & Evan, Crystal (Nickolas) and Nicole & Vincent and Brandon (Kezia) and Sofia & Ezra. He is also survived by his siblings: Ken (Tammie), Gayle, Deanna (Carl), Pete (Rosi), and Marvin, as well as his mother Margaret and numerous nieces & nephews. Among those who preceded Dave in death are his father Edwin, his sister Karen Godfrey and his daughter Nickie.
