Dean Moloney Obituary
Dean Randall Moloney, 72, passed in his sleep, unexpectedly on Aug. 21, 2025, at his home in Soldotna.
memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Sterling Community Center on with celebration of life and silent auction to follow. Celebration of life is potluck style so please bring your favorite dish to share.
Dean was born April 10, 1953, in Olympia, Wash. to Merrill "Brick" and Betty Moloney. He lived in Washington and Oregon until he was 27.
Dean was "self-taught" and "self-made" as a craftsman, and a business owner. He was owner/operator of Dean's Guide Service for 20 years on the Kenai River. He also built homes, garages and additions for people in the community, showcasing his carpentry, masonry, electrical, plumbing and roofing skills. He was a true "Jack of all Trades".
Dean moved to Anchorage, Alaska in 1980 with his former wife, Judy, and their 3 children. They eventually had 2more children and finally settled down in Soldotna in 1983, where he lived until he passed. He worked as a carpenter, mason, fishing guide and up on the North Slope. His pride and joy were his 15 grandchildren and 1great-granddaughter.
Dean was an extremely talented artist who built guns, furniture, custom cabinetry, wood drift boats, and bows and arrows. He was an avid outdoorsman who spent a lot of his free time hunting, fishing and competing in archery tournaments around the state and the Lower 48. He was a founding member of the Kenai Peninsula Archers and served as President and board member for many years. He was a champion at the State and Northwest Sectional levels in the Male Freestyle and Senior Male Freestyle divisions. He also competed in several National tournaments including the Vegas Shoot in Las Vegas, the Western Classic Trail Shoot and the NFAA Marked 3-D Nationals in Redding, California. Dean was also considered a coach and mentor to many people young and old.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Douglas Moloney, sister, Dale "Daisy" Moloney Anderson, and son, Christopher Moloney.
Survived by sister, Dana; sister, Darla and husband Richard; brother, David Moloney; brother, Rory Moloney; sister, Laurie Braun and husband Shaun; daughter, Wendy Croly and husband Todd; daughter, Melissa Martin and husband Kelly; son, Roy Moloney; daughter, Liberty Seifert and husband Stephen; grandsons, Marcus Moloney, Gunner Morgan and wife Harlee, Brandon Morgan, Miles Moloney, Avery Martin, Landon Moloney, Ante Seifert, Dylan Fry, Madden Seifert, Aiden Moloney; granddaughters, Raegan Fry, Nora Moloney, Alora Martin, and Hayden Seifert; great-granddaughter, Eloise Morgan and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Dean's ashes will be scattered in various spots including the Kenai River with his son Chris.
