Edward Adelbert Ferguson

1934 - 2020

On December 14, 2020, Edward Adelbert Ferguson of Nikiski, AK, passed away peacefully in his sleep. He was born on November 3, 1934 to Lila (Brown) and Edward W. Ferguson near Kyle, South Dakota. Ed, grew up in Newcastle, Wyoming, before moving with his family to Montana. Ed began working in the oil fields while still in high school and continued following the oil most of his adult life. Oil brought him to Alaska, in the late 60's where he met a widow, Gloria (Venable) Williams. She had seven children from her previous marriages and Ed took them in as his own. They were married in 1972 and lived on their homestead in Nikiski, AK, together until Gloria's passing in 1999. In addition to working in the oilfield, Ed had several business ventures including Granite Drilling, a water well drilling company and Big Johns, a gas station and convenience store outside of Soldotna, AK. Ed was a self proclaimed "Jack of all trades and master of none." There wasn't much that he couldn't do or make and he used his skills many times over the years to help friends and the community. Ed, was a history buff and a good story teller. One of his greatest enjoyments was debating the issues of the day and for many years he enjoyed calling into the local radio station talk show to share his opinions, under the pseudonym of "Al."
Ed was preceded in death by his infant sister Thelma, mother Lila (Brown) Ferguson, father, Edward W. Ferguson, wife, Gloria Ferguson, stepson, Steven Williams, stepdaughter, Susan Passe, stepdaughter, Laurie Bookey, and stepson, Mark Williams.
He is survived by sisters, Cora Miller of Seattle, WA, Ethel Morgan of San Angelo, TX, Mary Simmons of Gillette, WY, Blanch Cox of Newcastle, WY, Louella Peterson (Ervin) of Hill City, S.D. Brother, George (Cap) Ferguson (Judy) of Silt, CO. Stepdaughters, Denise Anderson (Bill) of Soldotna, AK, Marlene Stockdale (Robert) of Kenai, AK, and stepson, Kevin Williams (Debra) of Ephrata, WA. Also many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Ed will be laid to rest next to his wife, Gloria, in the McGahan Cemetery, in Nikiski, AK, at a date to be announced in the spring.
