John Dove Obituary

John Skip Dove, aged 78, passed away on August 5, 2025, in Soldotna, AK. Born February 6, 1947, Skip's life was marked by his adventurous and friendly spirit.

Skip served honorably in the US Navy from 1964 to 1967. After his military service, he pursued a career that mirrored his love for the outdoors and creativity. He was a renowned professional fishing guide on the Kenai, a skilled artisan, and an accomplished potter. Skip also expressed his artistic talents through welding, creating unique fish sculptures. He was a much loved custodian for the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District.

He is survived by his brother, Peter Dove; son, James Dove, daughter; Johnna Vin Zant; and grandchildren; John Michael, Adam and Shelby Vin Zant. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beverly, and his parents, Marcela and John.

Skip's hobbies included golf and poker, activities that he not only enjoyed but also used to foster community and friendship. His fun-loving nature made him a beloved figure.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Soldotna Elks Club at 2 PM on October 4, 2025. Skip will be remembered for his zest for life, his enduring friendships, and kindness.

I worked with Skip at Mt View Elementary School- I was a teacher and he was the head custodian. Even after he retired, he always had a kind word for me, asking about my family and how life was going in general. He will be missed; please accept my sincere condolences for your loss.
