John Efta Obituary
Longtime Kenai resident, Mr. John Anthony Efta, 50, died Monday, August 25, 2014 at his father's residence in Kenai.
Memorial Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Our Lady of The Angels Catholic Church, 225 S. Spruce Street in Kenai.
John was born September 3, 1963 to Leonard and Ramona Efta in Seward, Alaska. He was self employed as a commercial fisherman up until the present day.
His family wrote, "John was blessed to have a wife and two children who loved him very much and to have been able to pursue for many years what he loved to do: commercial fishing in the Cook Inlet. Even when his declining health prevented him from running his own boat, he continued to participate in fishing to provide for his family and teach his son the trade.
"Always willing to talk with and listen to anyone, John made many friends. He will be remembered by many for his talkativeness and willingness to speak whatever was on his mind.
"We love him and will miss him. We pray that he is now at peace, resting in our heavenly Father's arms."
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ramona Efta.
He is survived by his wife, Janina Efta of Kenai; son, Dominik Efta of Kenai; daughter, Melita Efta of Kenai; father, Leonard Efta of Kenai; brother, Mike Efta of Kenai; sister, Marjean Efta of Coffman Cove, Alaska and brother, Dennis Efta of Anchorage, Alaska.

Dominik, people do look remember and care. I miss your father and John Brockle. Often driving to work or on the boat I find myself remembering are earlier days.

I know nobody will go looking through these again, but after 4 years I miss him more than anything. He was the best dad and person that Ill ever meet, and showed me everything I ever needed to know long before Id ever need to know it. Im really glad I can come to this page and see some of the kind things people said about him and remember how great he was.

Good net hangers are hard to find and John was one of the best. Always expected and received a call in the dead of winter to ask about my net order and talk about the latest in fish politics. Praying for peace and comfort in this time of grief for Leonard, Mike and family.

John's expertise with needle and net will be missed by this fisherman and by many more. Not too many around anymore that could truly wear the mantle of 'netman'. John was one such, complete with a bit of jaw boning on the side about CI fish politics, world events on a given day or any manner of other topic. Sorry to see you go John. You'll be missed.

John was a great friend. As a fellow Christian and commercial fisherman we had much in common. We spent many hours discussing issues in both areas. He will be missed. Heart felt prayers go out to his family.

John and I spent many hours solving the major issues of the day, including matters of faith, matters of health, matters of politics, and of course delving into the controversy-free issues of Cook Inlet fisheries. When he couldn't make it into my office to talk, he would call. I will miss our talks, for sure, but I am confident we will see each other again and we will decide then which one of us was more full of b.s. My condolences to big John's family.
