Melinda Schmitt Obituary

Melinda L. Schmitt, 51, passed away Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018 at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, after a lengthy illness, with her family by her side.

Melinda was born Nov. 27, 1966, in Anchorage to Adolph "Duff" and Dian (Breshear) Schmitt. The youngest of five children (born four minutes after her twin), Melinda spent her youth living in Alaska and Kent, Washington. She graduated from Dimond High in 1985.

Melinda lived and worked in Auburn, Washington. She was employed by Scholastic Book Fairs for 17 years. She started in the warehouse, was promoted to head secretary and was awarded Regional Employee of the Year.

In 2014 Melinda returned to Alaska to be near family. Melinda had a "Heart for Hospice" and after attending Hospice Volunteer Training in 2015, became a regular and valued office volunteer. She loved garage sales, practical jokes, Pugs, the Broncos, cooking, coloring, and anything purple. Her greatest love was for her children, Joshua and Amanda. Her family would like her to be remembered for her contagious smile, bright eyes, tender heart and kind soul.

Melinda was preceded in death by her parents and step-father, Jim Schmitt.

She is survived by her children, Joshua Schmitt and Amanda Perry; twin sister, Monica Schmitt; sisters Reean (Dan) Pitts, and Kimberli Schmitt; and brother, Shawn Schmitt. She leaves behind nieces, Jenna (Rob) Wohead, Tracy (Jon) Woller, Nicole (Kyle) Witt, Brittany (Patrick) Huffman and Coral Suttle-Schmitt; nephews, Ashley Cameron and Cody MacDonald; great-nieces, Sarah, Jorie and Jaylynn Witt, Ellie Woller; great-nephews, Evyn Witt, Brayton Brewer-Cameron, Henry and Wesley Wohead and Alex Woller.

I was so very blessed to have gotten to know Melinda through her volunteering at Hospice. She was such a joy in the office. We "bonded" over our love of pugs, and I'm so thankful she got to meet and fall in love with my little pug Stitch. One of my fondest memories I will cherish of her is the day she snuck some yogurt to my dog, I came around the corner to find where my pup had gone and the look on Melinda's face was priceless (uh oh! busted!).

My prayers go out to Amanda and Joshua (she loved you both so fiercely, I could tell even in the short time I knew her), and to all of her family. *hugs*

M E L I N D A: "M" is for all the good memories of Mel I hold so close and dear. "E" is for the eloquence she showed in times of despair and fear.. "L" is for her unconditional love she showed for you and me. "I" is for the inspiration she would share so open and freely. "N" is for her niceness, reflected in her smile so big and great. "D" is for her loving "double" - her twin sis, Monica, she would jokingly refer to as her "womb-mate". And
"A" is for AWESOME, to summarize my friend, knowing that the Good Lord's angels will lead us together again! I love you, Melinda.
With heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.
