Virginia Hallmark Obituary

Longtime Kenai resident, Mrs. Virginia Lacey Hallmark, 88, died Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at her home in Kenai with her family by her side.

Memorial services will be held 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at Kenai Christian Church – 104 McKinley Street – Kenai.

Virginia was born January 9, 1934, in Waco, Texas. She received her B.S. in Elementary Education from Texas Western University (UTEP) and M.S. in Education from Baylor University. She moved to Alaska in 1967 first living in Wrangell for a year before moving to Kenai in 1968. She taught elementary education for over 30 years. She taught 1st and 2nd grade for KPBSD from 1968 until her retirement in 1995. In 1996 she co-founded READS Primary School with her daughter Pam and taught there until 1999. She also taught pre-school, summer school, and at KPC for many years. She received numerous awards in education.

Virginia was a devout Christian who loved to share her faith. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved reading, traveling, sports, and the New York Yankees.

The family wrote, "She was generous, full of energy, truly loved all children, and had a passion to teach them to read throughout her entire life."

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Richard M. Hallmark (Married 11-04-1950); mother, Ruby French; sister, Billie Warren; granddaughter, Faith Ann Hallmark, and grandson, Timothy Hallmark.

She is survived by her sons, Gary (Debra) Hallmark of Kenai and Douglas (Penny) Hallmark of Kenai; daughters, Diane (Terry) McBee of Soldotna, Pamela (Gary) Hershberger of Kenai and Lara (David) Ross of Kenai, grandchildren, Casey (Kristi) Hershberger, Cory (Rob) Lehl-Parrish, Whittney Tapley, Lacey (Kyle) Coleman, Ashlyn Kartchner, Jacey Ross, Byron McBee, Sheldon (Jasmen) Hallmark, Ira (Nova) McBee, Sadie (Matt) Sprenger, Elexis (Brian) McBee, Dawn (Craig) Wismer, Cerese (Zach) Oakley, Cassie (Clint) Brown, Matthew (Adriana) Hallmark, Tori (Conrad) Ackley and Samuel Hallmark, 33 great-grandchildren and brother, Vernon French of Santa Rose, CA and many nieces and nephews.
