Darlene Marmol Obituary
Darlene Jackson Marmol was born in Santa Monica California on October 15th, 1950.
Darlene had an incredible zest for life. She was passionate about her family, students, colleagues, and had an all-encompassing love for animals and nature.
After graduating from Bishop Conaty High School in Hollywood she worked as a telephone operator for ten years while attending Cal State LA where she earned her degree in special education with an emphasis in adaptive P.E. Afterwards, she traveled to Alaska joining the research vessel, Schooner Regina Maris where she discovered her passion for sailing and orca whales. From there, she found her calling in life, being a teacher. She taught special education and adaptive P.E for 20+ years for the LA Office of Education while earning her master's in education administration through the University of Phoenix and supporting her family while her husband was recovering from a life altering injury.
She and her family then moved to the Olympic Peninsula where she went to work for the Port Townsend High School as one of their special education and resource teachers. She loved advocating for her students and helping each of them discover their capacity to succeed. Her passion for teaching inspired her to work until three weeks before she passed.
Darlene is survived by her husband Raul, daughter Mackenzie, sister Sharon, and brother Jay. She was and is a force of nature and has been and will be greatly missed.
Her Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00pm on Saturday June 22nd, at The Red Barn at 712 Clark Road, Sequim, WA, 98382. All who knew her are welcome to attend and celebrate her life. Please wear a splash of color to honor her spark.
