Gary Dunmire

Port Angeles native Gary Dunmire passed away on August 29th, 2025 at the age of 86. Gary and his seven brothers and sisters were raised in Port Angeles by parents Harry and Dorothy Dunmire and lived on a bluff overlooking the Strait of Juan De Fuca. As a young man, Gary loved to explore the Olympic mountains, especially near Lake Angeles and the family's cabin at The Heart of the Hills.
In 1956, Gary joined the Navy where he proudly served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Midway (now a museum in San Diego).
After the Navy, Gary settled in San Pablo, California, where he married his first wife, Donna, and welcomed their son Jeff into the world. Years later, Gary met his second wife, Nina, with whom he shared 52-years of happy marriage and raised two daughters, Wanda and Lesa.
Gary worked in labor relations for thirty years and ultimately became the president of the Graphic Communications International Union. Always the diplomat, Gary was skilled at bringing people together and successfully negotiating contracts. After retirement, Gary moved to Portland, Oregon and kept busy as co-owner of a fundraising company, a bank courier and a bus driver to special needs children. In 2020, Gary and Nina returned to California, where they spent their time relaxing and strolling hand in hand through downtown Livermore.
Gary is survived by his wife Nina, former wife Donna, sister Lois, children Jeff, Wanda and Lesa, grandchildren Ryan, Tyler, Jessica and JJ, great grandchildren Joseph, Naomi, Levi, Benjamin and Bella and multiple nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and extended family throughout the country.
Gary was kind, compassionate and generous. He delighted in the happiness of others and always made people feel special. He will be dearly missed.
