Lois Bellamy Obituary

On Monday, September 24th, Lois lost her battle with peritoneal cancer, ending 12 years of retirement, living with her husband John Silver near Port Angeles in a house that they designed and built together. During their time there, Lois became a master gardener, and she spent many years growing vegetables at Robyn Hill and teaching classes on gardening techniques. Her enthusiastic involvement with the Master Gardeners earned her a Golden Trowel award. Lois also worked with Tax-aide, the AARP program for helping people with income tax preparation. She got a great sense of satisfaction when she helped someone get a larger refund than they anticipated.

Lois and John loved to travel. In the course of their years together they visited the Virgin Islands, China, Paris, The British Isles, The Netherlands, Germany, Alaska, Hawaii as well as the great park lodges of the Northwest and many other areas in Washington and the Northwest.

The daughter of Baptist Missionaries, Lois lived in several Appalachian towns before attending high school in Mountain City Tennessee. While attending King College, she met and married David Bellamy. They moved to Newark, Delaware, where Lois began her career as a research librarian, searching scientific and medical databases. She had one child, Lori, in 1967, and the couple divorced in 1979. In 1983 Lois married John and the couple both took Master's Degrees at the University of Illinois before moving to Memphis, Tennessee, where they both worked in the Health Sciences Library, serving the state medical, nursing, dental and allied health colleges.

In 2014 Lois was diagnosed with advanced peritoneal cancer. She underwent surgery and chemotherapy at the Northwest Medical Center in Seattle. For several years, she and John continued to enjoy feeding the deer and the birds and traveling throughout Northwest, but in 2018 the cancer caused a series of agonizing medical problems. Lois passed away at her home, attended by John, her sister Janice and her daughter Lori.

She is survived by her husband, John Silver, her daughter, Lori Bellamy, her step children Glenn and Paula Silver, and her sisters, Janice Blevins and Eileen Rife.
