Patricia LaGuardia Obituary

Sequim resident Patricia E. LaGuardia died in her home in Sequim of Lymphoma. She was 78.

She was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, to Charles and Margaret Hayward.

Patricia earned her bachelor's degree at California State University of Los Angeles, and her master's degree at California State University of Fullerton.

Throughout her career she was a teacher and coach at Estancia High School, Costa Mesa, California, a high school counselor at Marina High School, Huntington Beach, California, and a college counselor at Cerritos College, Norwalk, California. She ended her career as Director of the Assessment Center at Cerritos College, retiring in 1998.

Patricia met her husband Donald LaGuardia at Cerritos College when he worked on campus as the chief of police. They were married in Laughlin, Nevada, on April 4, 1994.

Soon after her retirement she and Mr. LaGuardia moved from Seal Beach, California, to Sequim.

Patricia enjoyed camping and fishing trips with her husband, hiking with friends, cooking extravagant Italian meals, and loved to get lost in a good mystery novel. She was an avid traveler and was always ready for the next grand adventure.

Patricia was an active member of her community and a good friend to all. She is loved by many and will be missed.

Survivors include her daughter Catherine Morton of Port Townsend, her daughter and son-in-law Mary Elizabeth and Mark Marriott of Tustin, California, her son and daughter-in-law Stephan and Kim Cook of Downey, California; step-daughters Cynthia Winkleman of Appleton, Wisconsin, Jennifer Charlton of Fountain Valley, California, and Margaret Aston of Burbank, California; brothers Charles Hayward of Dayton, Maine, Michael Hayward of Falmouth, Maine; sister Nancy Hayward of Eastport, Maine; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

My deepest sympathy on the loss of your loved one. We look to God's guidance and strength during these difficult times. He states in his Word at Psalms 29:11, "He will give strength to his people. He will bless his people with peace.
