Steve Landvik Obituary

On October 29, 2023, Steve Landvik of Juneau, Alaska passed away peacefully at home with family and surrounded by love. He battled serious medical issues in the months before his death but maintained a sense of humor and a loving, caring spirit to the end.

Steve was born in Minot, ND on October 5, 1951 to Norman and Vivian Landvik. His early years were spent in Minnesota until 1966 when his dad took a call to St. John's Lutheran Church in American Falls, Idaho.

He attended high school in American Falls and Idaho State University in Pocatello, ID. He had an entrepreneurial spirit and started a landscaping and lawn sprinkler business in southern Idaho. The business later expanded to Boise and many of the landscaping projects can still be seen today.

Steve and his wife Linda met in high school and began dating while both were in college. They were married in June 1974 and have two sons, Aaron and Mark. In 1981 they decided to move to Alaska 'for a few years', packed up their belongings and headed north for Juneau.

Steve worked in Juneau as a carpenter and general contractor. His work can be seen in many of the shops in downtown Juneau, extension buildings at St. Vincent De Paul, low income housing in downtown Juneau, WELS church, Shepherd of the Valley (SOV) Lutheran Church and columbarium plus numerous other commercial and residential structures.

As a charter member of SOV Lutheran he spent much time in design and as general contractor for the church building. He felt that the church was an important part of ministry in Juneau and the building provided a place for all to meet for worship and community concerns.

He loved singing in the church choir, watching football, reading mysteries, vacationing in the sun, spending time with his sons and watching his grandsons play soccer.

He is survived by this wife, Linda; his sons Aaron and Mark and grandsons Camdyn, Calvin and Crosby. He is also survived by his mother, Vivian Landvik, and siblings Liz Landvik , Deb Boomer (Hank), Dan Landvik, Tim and Susan Landvik. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Norman Landvik.

The following was written by his cousin, Mike Kleven, and shared at his father's funeral. The words ring true for Steve as well.

"The struggle is over. The task complete. The enduring mark made. The loss is felt. The victory won. Steve's faith and hope have given way to Eternal Life through the One who makes all things new. May God's overwhelming grace and peace fill you with hope and joy as you walk through the days ahead. Blessed be the memory of Steve Landvik".

Steve will always be remembered for his kind heart, compassion and love for life. He is forever in our hearts. Thank you to everyone for your cards, visits, thoughts and prayers for Steve and the Landvik Family.

A heartfelt thank you to Kelly Erickson, Hospice, all his care givers at Bartlett Hospital, Pastor Tari Stage-Harvey and the men's group at SOV. Thank you for your efforts, your love, and your care.

A memorial service is scheduled for 3:00 on December 10, 2023 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 8198 Keegan St. Juneau, AK. You can access a link on the church website if you would like to attend the service via Zoom.
