Kevin Roger Shellhamer, 59, of Harrisburg, passed away with his family by his side on Sunday, December 27, 2015. He was the loving husband of Sheree (Graham) Shellhamer for 35 years.
Kevin was born in Myerstown on August 30, 1956, to Mary L Shellhamer and the late Charles W. Shellhamer. He was a graduate of Elco High School, York College, Millersville University and a Nationally Board Certified Teacher.
Kevin had the great gift of working within his passion. He was a music teacher and band director for Central Dauphin Middle School until his retirement in 2014. His love of music spilled over and touched countless lives in the 34 years he taught.
He was an active member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Harrisburg, where he played in the orchestra and was on the Church Council; he enjoyed playing golf, home improvement projects, and grilling out-even though his burgers were always burnt. He was a loving husband and father, and always had the right words to say. He will be dearly missed.
In addition to his beloved wife, Sheree, he is survived by his mother, Mary; his children, William Shellhamer of Harrisburg, Lauren Shellhamer of Harrisburg, and Erika Shellhamer of Harrisburg; his brother, Craig Shellhamer of NY; and his in-laws, William and Kay Graham.
A special thank you to all the 7th floor Nurses at Hershey Medical Center for their outstanding care for Kevin.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Gail Reece.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 16, 2016 from 9-11am at Calvary United Methodist Church, 4700 Locust Lane, Harrisburg, PA 17109, with a Celebration of Life Service to begin at 11am. Hetrick-Bitner Funeral Home, Harrisburg, is honored to handle arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to Calvary United Methodist Church; or to Leukemia And Lymphoma Society, 1311 Mamaroneck Avenue, Suite 310, White Plains, NY 10605.

I don't know if anyone will see this, but I awoke this morning and thought of Kevin whom I haven't seen since the late 1980's. I had never completed my student teaching at IUP so as an "older" student I finally did it through Messiah College and Kevin was my advisor. I loved Kevin. He was such a great teacher, musician and person. I am heartsick that I lost touch with him and that he passed away in 2015. I will have a Hardee's Cinnamon Raisin Biscuit in your honor, Kevin! My love to his family.

Mr. Shellhamer was an amazing man. I had the privilege to be part of his band in middle school. He had an unbelievable passion for music. He cared about all of his students and pushed us to be our best. While I no longer play the trumpet, I still practice playing the notes as the hymns are sung in church. My deepest sympathies to the family. He was loved by so many and will live on in the great memories we all have of him.

My deepest sympathies to the family. My son started with Mr. Shellhamer at Northside Elementary School around 2000, learning the trumpet and playing in the band and Jazz band which led to the Middle School and High School and then University of Pittsburgh orchestra. Mr. Shellhamer was fantastic with the young students and their success is a testimony to his dedication. I will always remember the trips to Strawberry Square for Christmas performances and Mr. Shellhamer's kindness with all of the food vendors and the students. He will be missed, but heaven has an additional great musician to add to the Heavenly orchestra. Rest in peace, Kevin.

Condolences to Kevin's family. I worked with him at North Side. His love of music was evident, and I will always remember the jazz bands he put together with elementary kids - always with his brass instrument in hand ready to play along. I'm sure he's playing some heavenly notes!

My Condolences to The Shellhamer family. Kevin and I were child hood 'rat pack" friends as I lived down the alley on washington st. in Myerstown. we played pickup on whitmoyer's lot with other characters. Kev and I even tied to form a band win we were 12-13 year olds,,He was great I wasn't so it didn't last long.My oldest sister Yvonne passed away in 94' of leukemia it is a very very hard fight. prayers to all

And now his watch has ended....I had the privilege of growing up with Shelley as a Belvedere and a fellow timpanist. He was my right! Always went out of his way for me and a favorite of my parents. May I express my sincere condolences upon hearing of his passing. I took trombone lessons, about 15 to 20 years ago, with Mr. Shellhammer. He was a kind and patient man. I especially remember his joy in teaching me to play that old jazz standard "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" among others. Thanks to his skill and dedication as a teacher I still enjoy playing Trombone to this day.
