I played for him at Berry, Alabama, his first coaching job. He was feared, respected, and loved by all those who played for him.
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family.

My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Ben McCleod. As his teammate at PHS for the 1960 and 1961 seasons, I have always considered him to be one of the most intense football players I ever met. Our Coach Haynes praised him frequently for his total dedication to the game and his team. I agreed with that and tried to avoid facing him one-on-one in practice drills. He was very tough!
May he rest in peace.
