Ernest Albert McNair, 84, from Pensacola, FL passed away Thursday 31 December 2015 surrounded by his family. Ernest was born 21 January 1931 in Pensacola, FL and was a lifelong resident of Myrtle Grove.
Proceeding him in death are his parents Ernest and Willie Mae McNair, four brothers and two sisters.
Ernest is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years Barbara, children Michael (Michelle) and Craig (Leigh) and his grandchildren Meghan and Matthew. Ernest will be remembered as a devoted loving husband, father and grandfather.
Ernest was a well-liked and respected man. He leaves behind friends from Armstrong, building industry partners, fishing buddies and a very special friend and nephew Dude McNair.
He loved animals and had many pets throughout his life. He was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed throwing his cast net and fishing with his sons.
Ernest started his career serving in the Army traveling throughout Europe with primary duty stations in Germany, France and the United Kingdom. After completing his military service Ernest begun a career with Armstrong World Industries, retiring after almost 43 years.
Ernest was owner of McNair Builders holding a General Contractor license since 1975 building quality residential homes throughout the Pensacola area.
Visitation and funeral will be Tuesday January 5, 2016 at Pensacola Memorial Gardens, 7433 Pine Forest Rd., Pensacola, FL., 32526. Visitation starts at 10:00 am., with funeral following at 11:00 am.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Covenant Hospice for the loving care they provided for Ernest.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ernest's memory to the American Cancer Society, 5401 Corporate Woods Dr., Suite 100, Pensacola, FL 32504 or the Pensacola Humane Society, 5 North Q Street, Pensacola, FL. 32505.

had the great pleasure of knowing and working with Ernest at Armstrong, one of the most honest persons I have ever knowned, a very hard worker who provided well for his family with the hard work of being a mechanist at Armstrong, he will be greatly missed, to his son Craig and all his family, ya'll can be proud of having a father like Ernest. met this man many years ago at my dads shop, myrtle grove garage, went to school with his son Michael, last time I saw either of them , they worked for gulf power if I remember right.. he was a great man and a wonderful person.. take care of him father in heave... amen

To the McNair Family, I am truly sorry for your loss. Mr. McNair was one of the finest men I have ever met. I still think of him every time I hear a Merle Haggard song!
