Gregory Gates Obituary

Gregory Jay Gates was born on June 24, 1962 in Pensacola, FL. He passed away suddenly on October 2, 2010 on the island of Guam.
He came to know the Lord at the age of 14 and was a member of Olive Baptist Church. After high school Greg enlisted in the Air Force, graduating as a Power Production Specialist. He was stationed in the Philippines. After he returned home, Greg became an Electrical Lineman and in 1988 he became a Journeyman Lineman. His job took him to many interesting places and he made friends all over the United States. His favorite place to work was Guam, where he had worked previously for three years; so perhaps it is fitting that he spent his last days there.
Greg is survived by his wife, Jamie Williams Gates; his son, Travis Gates; his parents, Donald and Linda Gates; his brother, Scott Gates; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was especially close to Scott's daughter, Leighanna, and her baby son, Karsen. Greg was loved and will be missed by his family and his many friends.
Visitation for family and friends will be in the chapel of Olive Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2010.
A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Dennis Wilson officiating. Greg's cousin and good friend, Tommy Bennet, will also speak.

Mr. and Mrs. Gates,
I was so sorry to hear about Greg's passing. My mom called me from Grandview Florist yesterday. I remember Greg well from Pensacola Christian. I sat behind him in fourth grade. He was the type of person that left an impression on you. My prayers are with your family. May God bless and comfort you.

Dear Mr & Mrs Gates, Jamie, Scott and all that loved Greg, I am so sorry for your loss. I still can't believe it. I know he loved Guam and was so thrilled when Jamie flew over there. I had a lengthy conversation with him the week before he passed. He will be truly missed by me and of course by my son Jay and Karen. My prayers are with you all. Jay and Greg had many interesting stories to tell me when they got together, we laughed so hard listening to them. I'm going to miss that and going to miss Greg. Keep in touch with me Scott and Jamie please.
