Jack Gainey Obituary

Jack M. Gainey

1935-2011

Jack M. Gainey, age 75, of Pensacola, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on June 3, 2011. He passed away at home, surrounded by his family, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.

Jack was born June 17, 1935, in Bristol, Florida, and resided in the Pensacola area for most of his life. He has been a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church since 1967.

Mr. Gainey served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Saratoga from 1958 until 1962. He retired from the Naval Air Station after 30 years as a heavy equipment inspector.

Jack met the love of his life, Shirley Fowler, at Tennessee Temple University. They wed in Rome, Georgia, on May 12, 1959, and were happily married for 52 years. He was a loving, devoted, godly example of a dad and husband to his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Jack was comfortable behind a mule and a plow in his youth and equally competent working with nuclear weapons in the navy. He was most famous, however, as an avid and accomplished automobile mechanic. He was truly a "Jack of All Trades."

Mr. Gainey was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Evelyn Gainey, and his sisters, Peggy Crooms and Winifred Gainey.

Mr. Gainey is survived by his children: Jeff (Julie) Gainey and Jill (Tim) Pounders. He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Tiffany Edwards, David Edwards, Jordan Gainey and Jessica Gainey.

In addition, he leaves two brothers, Donald Gainey and Richard (Mary) Gainey; one sister, Wanda (Cassius Carter) DeCrow; and a number of nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all.

The family will receive friends Monday, June 6, 2011, from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Faith Chapel North Cantonment Funeral Home. Funeral services will be immediately following at Faith Chapel with Dr. Richard Meloy officiating. Pallbearers will be Mr. Gainey's grandsons, David Edwards and Jordan Gainey; his brothers, Donald Gainey and Richard Gainey; and his nephews, Col. Steven Martin and Dr. Troy Anderson. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery at 2 p.m.

The family would like to thank Emerald Coast Hospice for all their kindness and support.

Faith Chapel Funeral Home, 1000 Highway 29 South Cantonment is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley and family,
You and Jack have been wonderful friends and neighbors for many years and great examples of a Christian family. We will miss him but know that earth's loss is heaven's gain.

My prayers go out to the entire Gainey family. May God's "Showers of Blessings" cover you in your time of sadness. I will miss singing with Mr.Gainey here on earth, but soon I will join him in singing praises to our Heavenly Father above.

Shirley and family...although we will miss Jack terribly, at least we know that he is no longer suffering and is healed! What a wonderful man he was! We love you all and are keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
