Janice Marie Porter

Janice Porter, 75, passed away peacefully at her home in Pea Ridge, FL on Sunday Feb. 12th after a 2 year battle with breast cancer. She was born in Sugarcreek, OH to Clyde and Laverne Swihart as one of six children. After graduating from Ragersville, Oh. High School she joined the Women's Army Corp. where she met her husband of fifty-six years, Thomas Porter. After leaving the Army they settled in Kansas City, MO where they raised two sons. They moved to Navare, FL. In 1993, she worked for the Santa Rosa County property appraisers office plus several other jobs in the county, they them moved to Pea Ridge, FL. to be close to their son Jerry. Janice was preceded in death by her mother and father. She is survived by her husband of the home, sons William Porter (Jennifer) of Louisburg, KS. Jerry Porter of Pea Ridge, two grandchildren, Eric Porter and Rachel Porter, three brothers: Tom Swihart (Thelma), Bill Swihart (Bonnie), Dale Swihart (Hope), two sisters: Ruby Duerr (Gene), Sandy Maust (Eric) and many nieces and nephews. Janice having been born and raised on a farm loved gardening and mowing the lawn much to the delight of her husband. She enjoyed walking her sons dog with her friend Ruth Jackson and helping her neighbors. She enjoyed traveling in her 5th wheel trailer with her husband. Janice was loved and will be missed. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning hush I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there I did not die.
