Mac Bryan Obituary

MAC LYONS BRYAN
1931-2008

Mac Lyons Bryan, captain of the trawler vessel "JOMAC", passed away on September 4, 2008 after a very lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on December 21, 1931 in Greenville, Texas. He attended high school in DeRidder, Louisiana where he held the state scoring record in football. After serving in the Air Force at Hamilton Air Force Base, Mac attended McNeese State University where he was a star running back. He worked for many years as an insurance agent in Lake Charles and Alexandria, Louisiana. He then moved to Pensacola in 1969 and went to work for Fisher Brown Insurance where he earned the designation of CPCU, Certified Property and Casualty Underwriter. In 1992 he retired from Fisher Brown as vice president. He was a long-standing member of the Pensacola Yacht Club, Mayoki Indian Court, and was also a member of Warrington Elks Lodge.
After retiring, Mac and his wife spent many days entertaining their many friends aboard their trawler "JOMAC" and also at their "tunit" in Key Largo. The happiest days of his life were spent aboard his trawler "JOMAC" listening to the music of Jimmy Buffet and Ace Cannon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mac Basil Bryan and Elsie Lyons Bryan; his sister, Ann Celeste Bryan; his brother, James Don Bryan; and his closest friends, Murdock Barrineau, Bobby DePew, and Jim Rosenblatt.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Jo Ann Bryan; his four children, Sally Ann Bryan of Pensacola, Florida, Nancy Sue Roberts (Bill) of Pensacola, Florida, James Scott Bryan of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and Paul Lyons Bryan (Lisa) of Houston, Texas; his only surviving sibling and devoted sister, "Sister Sue" Ragusa (Tom) of New Braunfels, Texas; five grandchildren, Justin Touchstone, Amy Touchstone, and Emily Touchstone of Pensacola, Florida, and Savannah Bryan and Jackson Bryan of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Barbara Bryan, and his special mother-in-law, Elma Hammac.
There will be a "Celebration of Life" service at the Pensacola Yacht Club on Saturday, September 6, 2008, at 2:00 p.m.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Covenant Hospice, 5041 North 12th Avenue, Pensacola, FL 32504, in memory of Mac Lyons Bryan.

JoAnn,
It saddened me to hear of Mac's passing. I learned alot working with Mac the many years. I still smile thinking of his Dr. Jeckel and Mr. Hide nature (inside vs outside the office). My thoughts and prayers are with you and the family.

Jo Ann, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I didn't get to know Mac very well, but the times I did get to spend with him, I always enjoyed his company. I know he will be missed by many.

Mac, Captain Wonderful, you will be missed by so many dear friends. You have been through such long, hard battle, and you've fought hard, to the end. You're in such a better place now and out of pain, and I hope you're eating all the coconut shrimp you can find!

Jo Ann, I'm with you in heart and soul. I wish I could be there in person. I love you dearly!
