Mary Terrell Obituary

Mary Laine Terrell

1957-2014

Mary Laine Terrell of Gulf Breeze FL, died September 28, 2014 at the age of 57 of ALS.

Mary was born in Waterbury, CT on August 6, 1957 to Elaine and Emil Accetura. She graduated from Crosby High School in 1975 and from Mattatuck Community College with an Associate's Degree in Nursing in 1977. While working as the Hospital Librarian on the weekends, she met and later married Doug, a fellow student, a match literally made in heaven. As lucky as Mary was in love, she was twice blessed by her many deep friendships, whose visits brightened her life to the very end.

Mary loved her role as an L&D nurse. No one appreciated more the sacrifice and suffering these mothers did to bring their babies into the world. Guiding them through what has been described as a near death experience became the focus of her life. Being in public with Mary was to be stopped regularly by people who recognized her as being their L& D nurse and watch her be hugged and thanked again and again. She would delight in each of their stories and their many pictures. Though, it may only take a mother and one nurse to guide a new soul into the world, it takes many to guide a soul back.

If Mary was there for you, we ask you return the favor by joining us for a brief service and an extended reception afterward. Your support of her is appreciated. Memorial service will be at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 100 Daniel St. in Gulf Breeze on October 15, 2014 at 11:00 am.

Trahan Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary and I worked together 27 years at Baptist Hospital. Mary knew I was a single parent, so every Christmas she came in early, so I could go home and be with the kids when they opened presents. Mary was my true sister and the best present in my life. I love you, Mary and I'll see you on the other side one day as I promised. Love you, Doug. Heaven has our Angel now. Lucretia

I already said I was a server at bon-appetite in gulf breeze and she and doug were very good customers I will never forget their kindness. My brother threw a surprise b-day party at bon-appetite and out of all of my customers doug and mary were the only ones to attend. Mary was my nurse at Baptist Hospital when I delivered my son. It was a very long and difficult delivery. I arrived at the hospital when she was starting her shift. Mary stayed with me throughout a very difficult labor and delivery, remaining long after her shift until my son was safely born. I have often told my now 18 year old son about his "angel nurse" that was with us through it all. I have never forgotten her and her beautiful and gentle spirit. She truly was an angel on earth.

My sympathy goes out to Mary's family. My gratitude and thanks goes to Mary because she was the first person I met and sang with when I joined the Gulf Coast Chorale. May God's peace and comfort be with you all.
