Robert Doucette Obituary

Robert "Bobby" E. Doucette

Pensacola - Robert "Bobby" E. Doucette passed away February 8, 2020, four days before his 76th birthday.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Ruth Doucette.

He was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late Lillian and Louis Doucette. He met and married Ruthie, the love of his life, in New York after graduating from State University of New York at Geneseo.

Shortly after, they moved to Pensacola, Florida where Bobby pursued his lifelong career as a Mathematical Statistician. He worked as a civilian for the United States Navy before retiring in 2003.

Bobby was a kind-hearted gentle man who had the highest integrity in life. He enjoyed sailing, playing the bass, camping, model trains, board games, and trips to The Beau Rivage in Biloxi. He also enjoyed following the ups and downs of the Chicago Cubs and Buffalo Bills. Bobby was their most devoted fan!

Above all, he was a loving father who cherished his time with his three sons, Louis (Aurelie), Paul (Tiffany), and Douglas (Casey). He was the proud grandfather of seven granddaughters who adored him: Olivia, Claire, Ava, Piper, Chloe, Everly, and Emma.

He was the dear brother to Marilyn (Douglas) Pierce and Suzanne Doucette (James Ryder). He will be fondly remembered by nephews Derek (Beth), Dean, and Zak as well as many other family members.

The Doucette family is very grateful for the Escambia County First Responders and the medical staff at Sacred Heart Hospital. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to those who put our family first in the time of need.

These words are hard to write. I've been in denial about Bob's passing since I was first told by my wife, Mary Lou. I was speechless and pained. It's painful to know that such a kind and thoughtful friend is longer alive. It's painful to remember that we didn't stay in touch as much as we should have after retirement. I have such wonderful memories of working together with Bob for the Navy. I first met him back in 1971 in Scotia, NY at the Naval Correspondence Course Center. Although our careers took different turns over the years, we always had time to visit each other when we both worked out at Saufley Field. I have the fondest memories of Mary Lou and I spending a weekend up in Canada fishing on RIce Lake with Bob and Ruthie at his parent's cabin. The exciting house hunting trip the four of us took to Pensacola when we were all getting ready to move there. Bob stood by me when I married Mary Lou in the mayor's office in Schenectady, and Ruthie took the pictures. Mary Lou and I were Bob's groupies when his band played local venues in New York. Those were the days. I wish that Mary Lou and I could be there for your get together in remembrance of Bob, but it's not possible. I am reassured that your children and grand children we be great solace to you Ruthie. V/R Dean

Bobby and I became best friends, quickly when we met at SUNY Geneseo, his Freshman year. I was looking for a bass player and I found a brother. Bob was the du (Doucette) in the popular Aldujo Trio. For four years, we played all over the Geneseo area and one infamous gig in Toronto. After graduation, Bobby followed me to the Schenectady area where he found a career with Navy Correspondence and also found the love of his life, Ruthie. I like to think that I played a small role in that romance. Bobby and I again, played in a party band and laughed for many more years. Bobby was a true gentleman, a great musician and a great friend/brother. My son and daughter called him Uncle Bobby. After they married( and I saved the bride from being kidnapped) Bobby and Ruth moved to Pensacola. Although we were apart Bobby was always in my thoughts and heart. You will be missed. We lost a very special man and human being.

Bob was one of the kindest, funniest and hardworking men I've ever known. Integrity and honesty should have been his middle name. He was a joy to work and play with. I have pictures of him, wearing goggles, as he cut onions for Ruthie, and my birthday as they are the same date. He and Dean made us steak dinners. I still have a sock full of pennies from our poker nights where he enjoyed Indian poker. A silly game that made us all laugh. I wish I could be there Ruthie, to share some of the wonderful things he did for me at work. Never complaing,, and gentle words were always on his lips. The world will miss his compassion and smiling face. He, and you, have always had a special place in my heart. His memory will live on in my heart, my scrapbook, and my photo albums.
