Robert Foss Obituary

ROBERT E. "BOB"
FOSS, SR.
1938-2008

Robert "Bob" Foss joined his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 29, 2008.
He was born in Pensacola FL on June 10, 1938, along with his twin brother Richard B. Foss to Jacob Foss and Velma Bosso Foss. Bob grew up loving the outdoors and playing basketball for Catholic High School, where he was a member of the All-State Team in 1956 and 1957. He was all smiles when holding a fishing rod or swinging a golf club. Besides his great love for his family, Bob held the furniture business close to his heart.
He was a man of high ideals, integrity and honor. One could look upon the face of Toni Foss and his family, and know that Bob knew how to love, how to cherish, how to show compassion, and how to live with great passion. After graduating in Marketing from Florida State University, Bob went to work with Sears; where he moved through the ranks with his good friend Charlie Dunaway. Over the next 16 years there, Bob would learn the ropes of the furniture business, which would prove to be a lifelong passion. He moved to Monroe, Louisiana in 1979 to enter the furniture business. For over 29 years to follow, Bob woke each day looking forward to what it would hold.
Bob provided well for his family; owning furniture stores in Louisiana and Florida, and as a co-owner of Frenchman's Bend Golf & Country Club. He believed firmly in his roles as provider, generous giver, and protector; and held high the idea of leaving his children an inheritance. His legacy to them proved to be one of great reward, in the natural and spiritually.
Robert Edward Foss Sr. was husband to his life's love Rose M. "Toni" Foss for 48 years. They have two children; Robert Foss Jr. and his wife Regina of Sarasota, FL and Lisa Renee Foss Hicks and her husband Dr. Scott Hicks of Monroe, LA. His life will be celebrated and passing grieved by many, including sisters Geraldine Barker and her husband Dick of Pensacola, FL and Connie Rowe and her husband Lt. Cmdr. Denny Rowe of Royal Palm Beach, FL, and twin brother Richard "Bernie" Foss and his wife Carol of Pensacola, FL.
Bob loved and will be deeply missed by his five grandchildren; Michele Foss, Jake Foss, Josh Foss, Conner Hicks and Courtney Hicks. Also very close to his heart were many cherished friends that he made throughout his life.
Visitation will be 5:00-7:00pm Monday, November 3, 2008 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. The Rosary will be prayed at 5:00pm.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, with Msgr. Stephen Bosso, celebrant. Entombment will be in the Holy Cross Mausoleum in Pensacola, FL.
There will also be a memorial service on Saturday, November 15, 2008 in Monroe, LA, arrangements pending.
During Bob's last days, he remained a strong protective husband, father and friend; electing to have a procedure that could help him stay with his loved ones longer. The care he received from the Doctors and Nurses at the University of Alabama Birmingham Medical Center was wonderful. Particular compassion was shown to Bob by Dr. Melody Sherwood, a three-year resident that tended him most.
A memorial has been established with the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and donations can be sent to: UAB Gift Record AB1230, 1530 Third Ave South, Birmingham, AL 35294-0112
HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.

Jerry & Rita Stuckey

November 3, 2008

Rev. Jerry L. and Rita Stuckey are of a heavy heart for our loss and all who knew Bob Foss are at a loss because he has been a wonderful man, leader and friend. We have loved our vacations together as well as our times of fellowship as dear friends with your family. Bob has also been a faithful attender of our church at Bonne Idee Assembly of God from 2000 until 2006. This man had such a heart to see young people move forward and succeed. He was a motivator and encourager. He was so generous with all God had blessed him with. Our loss is heavens gain and Bob's gain. We pray for Mrs. Toni and the entire family this day that God give you peace and strength in the days ahead. God bless you. Love the Stuckey's and Bonne Idee Assembly of God church family.

Bobby was a classmate at C.H.S. I have not seen him in years but He always came to mind when remembering the great athletics in 1957 & 1958 .
