Rosemary Nusom Obituary

Rosemary Rosell Nusom

A Graveside Service will be held for Rosemary R. Nusom of Houston, Texas (formerly of Pensacola, Florida), at 12:30 pm, Friday January 15, 2016, at Shelter A in the annex cemetery of Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida.

A visitation will be held at the Pensacola NAS All Faith Chapel beginning at 11:30 am, preceding the service.

Rosemary was born in Santiago, Cuba on June 8, 1925 to Luis Rosell and Isabelle Greig. She died on December 31, 2015 in Sugar Land, Texas.

It was in Santiago that she met Frank Allen Nusom, a graduate of the US Naval Academy. Frank was a pilot serving in WWII at the time. They were later married in Pensacola at the Naval Air Station and then were stationed at various bases in the US and overseas in the Pacific. Rosemary loved being the wife of a Naval Officer. In 1965, upon Frank's retirement, the couple made the decision to return to their beloved Pensacola. Even after Frank's death, Rosemary remained in Pensacola until a few years ago when she moved to Houston to be closer to her daughter. It was always her wish to be buried with Frank at Barrancas National Cemetery.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband, Captain Frank Allen Nusom, USN, Retired; her only son Commander Frank Allen Nusom, Jr. USN, Retired; her eldest daughter Ana Maria Fenimore; her younger sister Flavia Rosell; her niece Julie; and her parents.

Survivors include her youngest daughter Pamela Rahmatdoost; her son-in-law Asad Rahmatdoost; her granddaughter Farrah Rose Rahmatdoost; her sister Georgina; her nephews Clark Allen and Robert Pelto; her niece Terry LaSalle; her cousins Charles Santos-Buch and Enid Duany, as well as many extended family and friends.

Pall Bearers will be Asad Rahmatdoost, Joseluis Zavala, O.P. Wellingham, Bryant Liggett, Alexander Liggett, Shad Klayhorst, and William Dickerson.

Memorials may be given in her memory to the United States Naval Academy Foundation, USNAF Gift Processing, 291 Wood Road, Annapolis MD 21402.

Services are under the direction of Garmany & Carden Funeral Directors, 1201 Fourth Street, Rosenberg TX 77471 (281)342-4671.

Though I never had the privilege of meeting Mrs. Nusom, I was a close friend and colleague of her daughter, Ana Marie, many years ago. I well remember the wonderful stories Ana Marie related to me of her beloved parents and brother and sister. I am sorry for the family's loss.

I have known Rosemary since I was in the second grade. Her family was like a second family to me. I spent many nights in their home, and I have wonderful memories of our times together. Later she reentered my life while keeping up her relationship with my parents, and for the last several years she has been a delight and a good friend. I will miss her bubbly energy. Bless you old friend. Condolences & prayers to Pam, Farah & Asad.
