SOLON LEE GANDY
1971-2007

Solon Lee Gandy, age 35 of Jay, Florida, died on Tuesday, May 1, 2007 following a sudden accident. Solon Lee Gandy was born in Foley, Alabama on May 20, 1971 to William Haynes (Bill) Gandy and Brenda Godwin and was the youngest of three children. Solon married Tara Johnson of Century in 1997 and the couple was raising two children: Natalie (6) and Luke (3). As a Flomaton High School student, Solon was a member of the State Baseball Championship Team and the Hurricane Football Team. After graduating high school in 1990, Solon attended Pensacola Junior College where he earned his Associate's degree in Forestry, working in the forestry field ever since. Solon was an avid deer hunter, but was best known for his unique turkey calling skills. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Flomaton.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, J.L. Gandy of Gandyville; granny, Hazel Godwin of Jay and grandfather, C.O. Godwin of Jay.
Survivors include his wife Tara; daughter, Natalie and son, Luke of Jay; mother, Brenda Godwin of Jay; father, Bill Gandy (Louise) of Gandyville; brother, Haynes (Suzanne) Gandy of Pace; sister, Vicki Baggett (Garry) of Bratt; step-brother Brandon Carroll of Wawbeek; step-sister Stephanie Carroll of Gandyville; nieces, Mallory Brock, Madison Gandy, Lexxi Baggett; nephews, Jace Gandy, Sawyer Gandy, Corry Baggett; beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and two special life long friends, Doug Dole and Lavon White.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Poplar Dell Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Gandy, the Rev. Fred Funches, and the Rev. Mitch Herring officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 4, 2007 from 6-9 p.m. at Jay Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Lavon White, Doug Dole, Michael Nowling, Brandon Carroll, Jason Robertson, Robbie Chavers, Randy Hinote, Scottie Moore, Tracy Gandy and Ronnie Knowles. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Pope, and the 1988 Alabama State Champion Baseball Teammates of Flomaton High School.
JAY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
