William Morrison Obituary

William "Bill" Morrison, Jr.

Pensacola - It's with great sadness that we announce that our beloved father, husband, and friend Bill Morrison has passed away.

Bill grew up in Pensacola Beach and Gulf Breeze, FL. Though he lived in Florida most of his life, he had a special connection to the town of Sewanee, TN, where he proudly graduated from The University of the South.

Bill opened Pensacola Pawn and Militaria, now The Trading Post, in 1985. A local mainstay for over 30 years, The Trading Post was a place where everyone knew your name. Bill strived to make all customers feel at home, and over the years they grew to be family. We thank Bill's friends for their support and all the great memories.

A lover of music, history, crossword puzzles, and a darn good deal, Bill was the life of the party. He will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Harriette and Stewart, and his daughters, Kate and Mary. He is survived by his wife, Beth, his children, Sarah and Will, his sister, Cathy (Arthur), his sister-in-law, Anne (Donnie) and his beloved dogs, Ginger and Buster.

A private family service will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery and a celebration of life will be planned for the near future.

Special thanks to the staff of West Florida Hospital, especially his nurse Cherie, for their exceptional care.

Why is it we are so late to revitalize old friendships. Billy and I spent some good times together in the 60s and early 70s. My sympathy to all the family. Philip Dyson, sewanee class of 1967.

We met in 1973 in Gulf Breeze @ Stewart & Harriet's hoe across the street where we lived at 217 Pine Tree Dr. Lots of fun time especially at The Trading Post during all day happy hour. What a great friend and it was fun doing deals with you on all sorts of neat treasures. I was so shocked I left word for Arthur to ask Cathy to call me so we could stay in touch. Unfortunately I have never heard from her. Miss you and your wonderful family buddy. Look forward to picking up where we left it.
Happy Trails...

I knew Bill since 1987. I stopped by the Trading Post this evening to say hi (as a lot of people did after work) I found out about his passing from some guys enjoying the evening.
Bill was a great guy, always enjoyed the stories and the items in his pawn shop. Pensacola has lost another piece of history :-(

Bill started me collecting German militaria, and since 1992 we were very close friends. I have several pieces from him in my home. The end of a era is gone "down at the shop." I will never forget my good friend.

Bill was a wonderful friend and confidant. I enjoyed meeting up with him and all of the people he made an impression on at The Trading Post. I hope he knew what a positive impression he made on others because he was such a likable and outgoing person. My oldest son and I will never forget him and all of the good times we shared. We are so saddened by his passing, and we will forever hold his memory dear in our heart.

There is so much I can say about Bill as a person, I choose to remember him as the mentor he was to me. I hope that everyone, when such people cross their paths, never take people like Bill for granted. I am better all around because I had the opportunity to cross his path.

Bill was one of the most warm hearted and loving men I ever knew. He loved his wife and two children above all things. He suffered immense tragedy in his life but did not allow it to define him. When you Visited his Trading Post on Scenic Hwy, you always left with a smile feeling that’s everything will be okay. RIP, Bill.
