April Evans Obituary

April Darlene (Bennett) Evans died peacefully on April 14, 2023 surrounded by her family after a courageous seven year battle with renal failure. April was born on Oct. 13, 1976 to Howard Rex Sr. and Virginia Ann (Hesler) Bennett in Frankfort, Indiana.

April grew up as a "circus kid", performing in the annual Circus City Festival in Peru, Indiana. April graduated from Peru High School in Peru, IN in 1995. In 2019, she received her Associate's Degree in Applied Science of Office Administration from Ivy Tech in Bloomington, Indiana. She then earned her Medical Coding and Billing Certificate from Purdue University Global in 2020. She had previously worked at Walmart of Bloomington, IN and IGA in Bloomfield, IN.

April's life truly began on April 6, 2000 when she met the love of her life, Richard Evans of Scotland, Indiana. Richard and April were married exactly one and a half years after meeting, on October 6, 2001. They eventually settled in Scotland, Indiana, near Richard's parents, Charlie and Bonnie Evans. Charlie and Bonnie loved April as if she was one of their own. Richard and April were blessed with 3 children Kellie, Matthew, and Jocelyn. If there was anything April was meant to do, it was to be a wife and mother. Her family was always her first and foremost priority. She never allowed anything or anyone to interfere with her ability to care for her husband and children.

April is survived by her husband, Richard, daughter Kellie (Cameron) of Milledgeville, Georgia, son, Matthew, daughter, Jocelyn. Also surviving is her mother, Virginia A. (Hesler) Bennett of Peru, Indiana, sisters, Ashley (Jacob) Isebrand of Titonka, Iowa. Gayle (Steve) Trevithick of Peru, Indiana, Connie (Taunya) of Florissant, MO, and Kim Bennett of Linden, Indiana. Brothers, Shane (Lana) Deford of Peru, Indiana, Ryan (Lori) Deford of Indianapolis, Indiana and Howard Rex Bennett Jr. Sister-in-laws, Toni (John) Blackmore of Scotland, Tonya Higgins of Scotland, Tracy (Bob) Hall, of French Lick, Kristie Evans of French lick, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Richard and April were anticipating the birth of their first grandchild, Caroline Marlee Pound later this month. April was preceded in death by her father, Howard Rex Bennett Sr, paternal grandpa, Harry and Waneta Bennett, maternal grandpa, Berle and Opal Healer, as well as her in-laws, Charlie and Bonnie Evans.

The family would like to extend a thank you to Fresenius Kidney Care in Bloomington, IN and the Hospice Care Team at IU Methodist Hospital of Indianapolis, IN for their excellent care of April, as well as countless friends that stepped up to help April and the Evans Family in unimaginable ways.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Scotland Indiana Fire Station (located at County Road 200 E, Scotland IN 47457) on Friday, April 28th from 5-7 pm. Private burial will be held in Scotland Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton, Indiana.
