May 22, 1944 - August 7, 2024
Matthew Leonard Hudson, born May 22, 1944, passed away peacefully at his home in Weaverville, California, on August 7, 2024, due to complications from Parkinson's Disease.
A gifted athlete, Matt graduated from Temple City High School in 1962, where he excelled in football, baseball, and basketball. He went on to play football for the University of Southern California before earning a law degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
Matt was a dedicated and loving father to his four children that he shared with his first wife, Kathy. Upon moving to Petaluma in 1974, Matt served as the City Attorney for Petaluma before transitioning into private practice. Deeply committed to his community, he served on several boards and commissions, including the Petaluma School Board and the Petaluma Boys and Girls Club.
Later in life, Matt re-married and moved to Weaverville. There, he continued his legal work as Deputy District Attorney for Trinity County.
Matt was preceded in death by their eldest daughter, Jessemy, who passed away from ALS on June 18, 2024. He is survived by his first wife, Kathy; sons Tyrus Hudson (Kristi), and Nicholas Hudson (Caroline); daughter Phoebe O'Neil (Lyndsey); son-in-law Dave Harris; grandchildren Dylan, Mia, Julia, Bella, Josephine, Hazel, Freddy, and Ernie; brother Jess Hudson; and sisters Carolyn John and Amy Hudson; his second wife, Amy, and her children and grandchildren.
Matt lived a life marked by dedication to his family, public service, and community involvement. A son, a husband, a father, a partner, and "Boppa"; he will be missed and remembered fondly by all who loved him.

I met him when I was a young attorney in Pealume. I always valued his friendship, and we shared a love for the novels of Patrick O'Brian. I will miss you, Matt.
