Meryl DOREY Obituary

DOREY, Meryl Joanne Heaven is more beautiful than ever as angels rejoice the arrival of Meryl Joanne Dorey on April 30, 2016. There to lovingly greet her were parents, Ted and Helen Dorey; brother, Tim Dorey; and husband, Al Berryhill. While here on Earth, Meryl lived a life that certainly earned her a place with the angels. She was bright and witty, charismatic and kind, with a smile and incredible spirit that lit the room as she entered. She had an ongoing quest for personal growth and became devoted to making a positive difference in the lives of others. Born in Whitter, CA July 7, 1941, she attended King City H.S. and San Jose State Univ. After retiring from a lengthy career in human resources management, Meryl continued to work as a volunteer for a variety of causes. She became an inspirational yoga instructor, and for numerous years before and after her own cancer diagnosis, passionately worked to raise money for cancer research as Captain of a Cloverdale Relay for Life team and for teams in Healdsburg and Petaluma. She helped others who struggled with grief over the loss of a loved one, and worked as a hospice volunteer to bring comfort to individuals facing the end of life. In everything she did, Meryl stayed true to herself and her principles. In addition to her dear sister, Diane Dorey, Meryl is survived by her loving niece, Erika Frank (children Caitlin and Asher); nephew, Jeff Ketcham, (wife, Emily, and children, Colt and Shawnee); her beloved children by marriage, Suzanne Berryhill Bostow (husband, Al, and children, Nick and Maddie), and Brian Berryhill (wife Christy, and daughter, Millie), as well as a huge family of friends. "Whenever you feel blue, just look up in the sky and you will see the brightest star shining...that's me...watching over you". Our dearest Mer lives on forever in the stars...forever in our hearts. Meryl's wish is for donations in her memory to the Cloverdale Senior Center, American Cancer Society, or Hospice of Petaluma.

Dearest Meryl, Our family grieves for our loss while we also rejoice for your release from suffering. We know you are with those loved ones who passed before you, including our dear father John Macri. You and our father shared a special love that enriched your later lives. You didn't have just deep love for one another, but also a true and gleeful affection... it was apparent whenever you were together, flirting and joking and laughing like teenagers at the beach on summer break.
We are so grateful for the love and laughter you brought to all of our lives.

We only knew each other a few years, and I wish it had been longer. What a sweet person, facing life with such grace. I'll miss her.
