EASLEY — William E. "Bill" Cox, Sr., 90, of Holly Bush Road, husband of the late Laura Lawson Cox, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Monday, August 20, 2018.
Born in Liberty, S.C., he was a son of the late Arthur Woodfin Cox and Lillie Mae Helams Cox.
Mr. Cox was a partner with Talbert, Cox and Associates Engineering Firm in Charlotte. He received his bachelor degree from The University of South Carolina where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was a member of Easley First Baptist Church and the McCall Sunday School Class and was a Charter member of Carmel Baptist Church in Matthews, N.C.
Mr. Cox was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed fishing, building things with his hands and times spent at the beach. He also proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII.
Surviving are his children, William E. "Bill" Cox, Jr. (Dawn) of Atlanta, Ga., Jan C. Shope (David) of Charlotte, N.C., and Cathy C. Gratz (Greg) of Greenville; grandchildren, Ashley Brawner, Laura Fischer, Heather Stanley, Allyson Archer, Billy Cox III, John Stevens, Jillian Krimminger, Stephen Shope, Jennifer Myatt and Chase and Rhys Gratz; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Cox was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Charles W. Cox; and sisters, Janet Elizabeth Cox, Mattie Lee Drummond, Agnes Pepper and Edna Cobb.
A service to celebrate Mr. Cox's life was held on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Easley First Baptist Church with burial following in Robinson Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends prior to the service on Thursday from 12:30-1:45 p.m. in the narthex of the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shine Soup Kitchen, 111 Hillcrest Drive, Easley, SC 29640.
The family was at the home.
