Algie Turner Obituary


Algie Lee Turner PORTSMOUTH - Algie Lee Turner of 1410 Newby Road, went to be with the Lord Oct. 1, 2008, at the VA Medical Living Community Center. He was a native of Newsome County. He graduated from Southampton High School, Courtland, Va. Mr. Turner was a retired Army/Navy veteran. He joined the Army in October 1965 to 1968; he was awarded the Purple Heart by the Army in March 1967. In 1969, he registered in the U.S. Navy until he retired in 1987. He was preceded in death by his wife, Harriet Carphine Turner; his parents, Everette and Margeret Turner; and a son, Henry Cuffee. He is survived by his four children: two daughters, Gail (Jim) Ramsey of Chesapeake and Vanessa Cuffee of the home; two sons, Vernon (Kim) Griffin of Portsmouth and Michael Cuffee of Williamsburg; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Eleanor T. Best of Franklin; one brother, James Turner of Franklin; one aunt, Fannie Griggs; and a host of nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held at Greater Bethel AME Church, 2320 Cedar Road Chesapeake, VA 23323, Thursday at noon by the Rev. William Chatman. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
