Andrew M. Johnston

Virginia Beach - CPO Andrew M. Johnston, USN RET, died on October 5, 2016 at Portsmouth Naval Hospital just a few days shy of his 75th birthday.

He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Louise Schanck; his father, Andrew Johnston; his wife of 49 years, Carole M. Johnston and his beloved companion, Baby Girl.

He is survived by his children, Kim Grayce Johnston, Andrew M. Johnston, Jr., (Mary Lou), Stephen A. Johnston (Anne), Michael T. Johnston (Susan Poe), and Timothy A. Johnston (Pamela). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jordan Bailey (Travis), Patrick Johnston, Stephen Johnston, Skylar Johnston, Michael T. Johnston, Jr., Sydney Johnston and Timothy A. Johnston, Jr. Additionally he is survived by his great-grandchildren, Grayce , Travis Junior, and Mariah and his sister-in-laws, Mary Lou, Celine and Dianne (Jim), and his brother-in-law, Tommy, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA he was a life-long Steelers fan. He was a graduate of South Hills High School, Tidewater Community College and St. Leo University. As a member of the United States Navy he travelled the world. Upon his retirement from the Navy he continued to work in the field of aviation electronics. He was a founding member of Johnston's Groundwater and pump service. He worked hard his whole life.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach. Burial will be at a later date in Pittsburgh. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com
