Andrew Sprinkle Obituary

Andrew Sprinkle

Brevard, NC - Andrew (Drew) Crutchfield Sprinkle died at the age of 31 on Sunday, November 16, 2014 in a car accident in Brevard, North Carolina.

Andrew was the oldest child of David Michael Sprinkle and Catherine Anne Crutchfield Sprinkle. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee on July 7, 1983.

Andrew is survived by his parents, his beloved sister, Anna Catherine Sprinkle Odum, his brother-in-law, James Renwick Odum, many, many aunts, uncles, great-aunts, great-uncles, and cousins. He and his sister Anna were only 15 months apart in age; childhood companions, lifelong best friends. Her love for her big brother is never ending. Andrew considered James Odum to be his brother. His Shetland sheepdog, Duncan, and his Maine Coon cat, Chloe, will miss him so much.

Andrew made friends easily and has left a multitude of people mourning his passing. Especially among them, Joseph Odum, another true brother, Troy Montrone, a kindred spirit, and Jay Unis, his favorite golf partner and longtime friend.

Andrew graduated from Clemson University with a BS in Political Science and a minor in Business. A proud Tiger. He also earned a BS in Accounting from Kennesaw State University. Along the way, he graduated from San Diego Golf Academy with a certificate in golf management.

His love of golf began at Wildewood Country Club in Columbia, SC at the age of 9, encouraged and happily supported by his first golf partner, Dad.

He later worked there during high school as a cart attendant, and became a member of the Spring Valley High School golf team in Columbia. His first job after college was Assistant Golf Pro at Lookout Mountain Golf Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He advanced to Acting Head Pro while at Lookout Mountain.

Andrew was a staff accountant at IBIS, Inc. in Norcross, Georgia at the time of his death. He very much appreciated the opportunities offered to him by the company.

Andrew had so many interests and hobbies. He taught himself to play guitar in high school. He loved to see his favorite band, Phish, at every opportunity. He shot skeet and trap. But his greatest enjoyment was found in nature. He was never happier than when he was fly-fishing or hiking. Although he lived in Atlanta to make his living, his heart was in Western North Carolina, and Brevard, NC more than anywhere else. He had hoped one day to be able to both live and work there.

Our son, brother, nephew, cousin, friend will never be far from our hearts. We will think of him every day, most especially when we are on a lake, in the mountains, or when we hear a soft wind blow in the trees.

If he saw a stream or lake, he fished it.

If he saw a trail, he hiked it.

If he saw a mountain, he climbed it.

Go rest high on that mountain, Andrew.

His family can never express the depth of their gratitude to the countless members of the community who assisted at the scene of the accident, and then conducted a multi-day search to recover Andrew and return him to us. Those involved were:

Transylvania County EMS, Brevard Rescue Squad, Brevard Fire Department, Connestee Fire Rescue, Henderson County Rescue Squad, NC Highway Patrol, NC Highway Patrol Air Division, Mission Hospital MAMA, NCHILERT, Transylvania Co. Emergency Management, Transylvania County Sheriff's Office, Transylvania County Sheriff's Office K9, Hendersonville Police Department K9, Spartanburg SC K9, Spartanburg County Community Emergency Response Team, Rockbrook Camp Staff, Carr's Hill Baptist Church, Little River Water Rescue Squad, Valley Hill Fire and Rescue, Henderson County and South Carolina Rescue Dog Association.
