Ann Gill Obituary

Ann Wagner Gill
Virginia Beach - Ann Wagner Gill passed from this life to life triumphant on July 23, 2012, leaving her loving family and legions of friends with a huge sense of loss. Born as a twin with her sister, Lelia Devereux, on September 29, 1935, in Norfolk, Virginia, she lived most of her life in Virginia Beach as the beloved wife of Howard Gill, who survives her. She was predeceased by her mother, Veronica McGuire Wagner, her father, Jefferson Ashburn Wagner, and her stepmother, Nina Wagner Odom.
Ann's unique personality possessed many wonderful traits, but paramount among them was her genuine caring for others, which she exhibited every day. Her vivacious and beautiful persona were magnetic as she made a very large swath across this world , and we will all miss her greatly and remember fondly her special touch on our lives.
She was a Roman Catholic and longtime active member of Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
Ann loved flowers and gardening and became a Master Gardener, giving her time and talent to the Norfolk Botanical Gardens, the Virginia Aquarium and the Chrysler Museum. She was an active member of the Virginia Beach Garden Club, the Garden Club of Virginia and the Garden Club of America.
A founding member of the Atlantic King's Daughters Circle, Ann was one of three sponsors forming the Beacon King's Daughters Circle, and graciously volunteered with numerous organizations, including St. Mary's Home for Disabled Children, Lee's Friends, Contact (a crisis intervention hotline) and Meals on Wheels.
With her many friends through the years, Ann enjoyed tennis, golf, Bridge, Mahjongg, gardening and cooking and was good at them all.
Ann was so proud of her beautiful family, including her three sons and their families:
Mo and Amelia and their children, Howard IV, Christopher, Ginna, Lydia, Daniel, Josiah, Joy, Elizabeth, Titus and Noah, in San Antonio, John and Susan and their daughters, Ainsley, Halle and Greer, and Patrick and Clay and their sons, McGuire, Cannon, and Barr, all of Virginia Beach.
Ann is also survived by her sister, Lelia Devereux, her niece, Ramsay, her nephew, Townsend and his wife Sheri and their children, Hunter and Sarah of Boulder, Colorado and her brother William Baer of Canton, CT. and her favorite cousin, Dicky Davis of Free Union, Virginia.
A memorial service will be conducted at Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 1308 Artic Circle, Virginia Beach, at 10:00 AM. on Friday, July 27, 2012, following a private interment. Reverend Father Esteban DeLeon will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Mary's Home for Disabled Children, 6171 Kempsville Circle, Norfolk, Virginia 23502, or online at saintmaryshome.org., designated for the creation of a tribute garden celebrating the life of Ann W. Gill.
