Antonio Robino Obituary
Virginia Beach - LCDR Antonio (Tony) P. Robino (Retired) 78, passed away peacefully on 22 May 2014. Tony joins his eldest son Antonio who predeceased him by four months. Tony was born on January 20, 1936 in Naples, Italy. He was raised in Crystal City, Missouri by his mother Mary V. Finney and his Stepfather Sidney L. Finney. Tony graduated from the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy in 1958, and served 22 years in the U.S. Navy before retiring in 1979. Following his Navy retirement Tony opened a custom barn business which lead to his life long love of woodworking. In addition to woodworking Tony was an avid golfer, amateur photographer and devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Tony began a second career as a high school teacher in the Virginia Beach Public School system retiring in 1999.
Tony proudly served his country as a naval officer and naval aviator, during which time he flew many different aircraft including the Grumman S2, TF9J Cougar, A4F Skyhawk, and the A6A Intruder. Tours of duty included the amphibious flagship USS Estes, and the aircraft carriers USS Yorktown, USS Coral Sea, USS America, and the USS Forrestal. During his tours of duty Tony piloted 521 carrier assisted landings and many strike missions in the Vietnam War. Among his many service and campaign citations Tony received seven strike/flight air medals and the Navy Commendation Medal with combat distinguishing device. Following his military service Tony taught at Kempsville High School, First Colonial High School and Ocean Lakes High School.
Tony leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 55 years Linda, his brother Leo and sister Patrizia, his daughter Patrice Robino-Mark and her husband James B. Mark M.D. and their children Jamie, Kyle and Meagan, his son Mark Robino and his wife Sheila and their daughter Taylor, his son Christopher Robino J.D. and his wife April and their two sons Jackson and Mason, and this grandchildren Nicholas, Patrick, Andrew and Zachary.
Full military honors burial service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date to be determined. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.altmeyer.com. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully asks that you make a donation to the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Linda, please accept our condolences on Tony's passing. I was a VA-42 squadron mate with him in 1969. I will always remember his professionalism and wonderful sense of humor. It was a pleasure to serve with another paisano. Even though we only served together for a short time, he made an impression on me in my early career days as to what a leader should be like. We will pray that you and your family have peace and comfort in this time of sadness and mourning.

Tony and I were students at ODU together while he was working on is 2nd degree. During the last years of his teaching career we worked together. I will always remember the fascinating stories of his life experiences he would share. Our world is a poorer place with his passing.
