Brian Hudgins Obituary

Brian Michael Hudgins

Chesapeake - Brian Michael Hudgins, 43, passed away after a long and courageous battle on October 25, 2017, in his home with his devoted parents by his side.

Born March 6, 1974, in DePaul Hospital, Norfolk, VA, he was the son of Elton Lee and June Rose Hudgins. He is survived by his parents and sister, Kristen H. Chance and husband, Kevin N. Davey, and his beloved niece and namesake, Nivelle "Nivie" Michaela Chance, of Cornwall, England, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Ralph & Toni Rose of Chesapeake, and paternal grandparents, Arthur E. Hudgins, Sr., of Roxboro, NC, and Gerald & Mae Ansell of Chesapeake. He is also survived by his godparents, Tommy Johnson and Vicki Rose Beaver, of Colonial Heights, VA. He was christened at Rosemont Christian Church by Rev. Carroll Lewis on Father's Day in June of 1974.

Brian was a 1992 graduate of Great Bridge High School having achieved twelve years of perfect attendance, and attended Tidewater Community College. His work career included Hudgins Linehandling Services, Inc., Builder's Square and Bergey's Dairy in Great Bridge before joining Allstate Insurance in Virginia Beach, later moving to Glen Allen, VA. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers Fan from a very young age, and loved NASCAR having studied his grandfather's racing career from the early days of the sport in Tidewater, VA.

Brian never complained and was deeply devoted to his entire family. No matter what the need or occasion was, he was always there. His love of God permeated his life, including and especially his baptism ceremony conducted by Rev. Charles H. Winslow, M.Div., Chaplain, from Comfort Care Hospice. This was, indeed, one of the most precious services ever witnessed by his parents.

He will be missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his two cats, Nova and Allister. We would like to thank Dr. Nasrollah Fatehi and wife Christie, R.N., along with Dr. Susan Ziglar and the Comfort Care Hospice Team of Chesapeake Regional Hospital for their compassionate wisdom, guidance and care in the final days of Brian's life. We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Family Care Senior Solutions for their wonderful aids and scheduler, Deborah, for your excellent coverage of Brian's daily needs. You will always have a special place in our hearts for your love and devotion to both Brian and his parents during this difficult journey, especially at the end.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation of food, supplies or money to your local animal shelter. Brian loved animals, and would have loved this gesture of kindness to those in need of a home.

A memorial service honoring Brian's life will be held at a later date. A heartfelt thank you to everyone for their love and support extended to our son. Your visits, cards, prayers, food, and serenading him on the bad days made life so much more comfortable. May God bless you all. The movie "Brian's Song" won five Emmys, but our Brian's Song won all of our hearts for his courage and bravery in the face of difficult odds.

Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home will be handling arrangements for the family.

"And all the happy days would never learn to fly, until the hands of time would choose to wave, goodbye. Brian's Song."

Thank you to all for your kind words and condolences. Brian was, indeed, a special young man and we miss him terribly, but know that he is with our Lord now and pain free. I thank God for the privilege of being his mother, and one day soon, we will be reunited. "What a day of rejoicing that will be." Many blessings to all.

Love,
June

My dear friend & fellow Pittsburgh Steeler fan Brian, Although I have known you for less than a year, I feel like I have known you for a very long time. I know that you fought the hard fight and you and the Lord only know the true pain that you endured. You suffer no more my friend and are with our Lord & Savor along with your grand parents and loving friends and relatives. I pray that you enjoy your eternal home and until we meet again my friend, I'm not going say goodbye. But know where you are, the sun always shines, just like today and the day of your journey to heaven. May you enjoy every day and may the Steelers always win!!! Your loving friend, LHS

May God bless your memory Brian. Childhood on Fairfield Drive seems so long ago. I remember riding our big wheels in my backyard at 445. Brian had the Green Machine (big wheel) which made me and Phillip Webb's look pretty small. I could never figure out why Pepper, Brian's cat, never had a tail, and who named his beagle Moochie? I can still hear his bark. Standing at the bus stop at the corner of Winfall and Fairfield waiting for the bus one morning, I have to admit me and Brian got into a little disagreement and I think I broke one of his front teeth. I felt sooo bad. I wasn't one to fight but it didn't change our friendship. Brian came across tough on the outside but actually had a soft spot on the inside. He was probably the first to show me how true friends can have their quarrels with each other and still be friends. He got me into the Great Bridge Swim and Racquet Club for free on more than one occasion....shhhh. It's a comfort to know that he is now pain free. God understands your tears - He's been there. Bless you, Hudgins family.

I attended Brian's high school graduation in 1992, where he received an award for never missing a single day of school in his life. Not long after graduating, he became ill and for the next 25 years fought courageously through his condition to lead a productive life. When I last saw him in the fall of 2016 at his parents' home, I was struck by the depth of the love that both Bubba and June had for their son. That love will never end. My heartfelt condolences to Brian's entire family. Susan Norman
