My name is Celine and Mr. Sarmiento was my teacher in 6th grade. I was looking through my old 6th grade signing book and saw a note and signature that he left for me along with my other teachers and for some reason I felt this sinking in my heart and something told me that he had passed. So I immediately looked up sarmiento obituary and there he was. Its crazy how some things turn out, but Mr. Sarmiento was a great teacher. I remember when I was no longer his student in the 8th grade I would be waiting outside the school for 2 hours every morning because I had no other transportation to drop me off on time he would take me in and let me sit and wait in his classroom and he would put on a movie or give me something to do every morning. And I was so greatful. And I still am. I am now 18 years old and I will remember forever for his small, simple acts of kindness.

We were heartbroken when our daughter texted this morning to let us know of Mr. Sarmiento's passing. He was a devoted educator who encouraged critical thinking and thoughtful discourse. Our daughter regularly references his class and how he taught her to be a better learner and thinker. His passing is a great loss for the community. I'm grateful for the role he played in shaping our daughter. Thinking of his family and all of the lives he touched.

As a parent of a child who had the pleasure of having Mr. Sarmiento as her teacher I am truly saddened by his passing. He was such an amazing teacher. Amazing human being. Our daughter is so blessed to have had him for a teacher. We're so very sorry that he's gone in body, but he will live on in our hearts and minds forever. Forever greatful to him for sharing his love of history with our daughter.

Brian was a kind, knowledgable teacher and the students loved being in his class. Brian will always be remembered as the teacher who's caring extended beyond the classroom setting. He went out-of-his way to provide snacks for every student that stayed after school @ Kemp Landing Magnet School! Brian was honored by TV Channel 10 "Making A Difference" Award because of his act of kindness & appreciation for the students. Teachers and students alike will miss him dearly.
