C. Scott Harris, Jr.

Portsmouth - Scott Harris, Jr., 90, died July 15, 2017 in Suffolk. Mr. Harris was born in Rocky Mount, NC to the late Ruby and C. Scott Harris, Sr. He graduated from Suffolk High school. He was a naval veteran of WWII. He married Alma Joyce Bridges, his high school sweetheart on Sept. 21, 1946.

He is survived by his children Robert Harris, Linda H. Fisher (John), and Janice H. Smith (Clay). Mr. Harris was employed as a salesman and retired from JC Penney Co. He was a member of Westhaven Baptist Church and Sunday school. He served as a Deacon, was a member of the choir and served on various committees. He also served on Va. General Baptist Board and as a moderator of the Portsmouth Baptist Assoc. for many years. Later in life he completed 2 years of college to become a licensed minister.

In addition to his children survivors include his sister, Agnes H. Manos, his grandchildren Kimberly McFoy, Brian Fisher (Sara), Julie Lopez (Zack), Stephanie Fisher (Joel), Brooke Wells (Nate), Justin Davis (Cindy) and John Harris (Jennifer); step-grandchildren Julia McLaughlin (Myles), Bobby Smith; many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and the loving staff of The Crossings.

He was predeceased by a sister Dot H. Turner and a brother Linwood Harris.

The funeral will be held at 2pm Sunday at Westhaven Baptist Church by Rev. Rick Hudock and Rev. Betty Burnell. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens on Monday at 11am. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6-8pm in Loving Funeral Home. Even in death, "he continues living for Jesus".
